Quote by: nvp[p]Thanks for the reply.

After a lot of head scratching I found that my server had lost it’s connection with the Active Directory.
After binding the server to the AD again I was still unable to create a home directory using the “createhomedir” command but when I logged on to a client as my augmented user the home directory was created on my AFP server!! HAPPY DAYS!!

I’ve been looking at Bombich’s script to mass create the augmented users but I can’t get it to run 🙁

If I run the script I just get a text document with my Directory Admin details. If I run the mbr_enum from the Terminal I get the following error:
Terminating app due to uncaught exception ‘NSInvalidArgumentException’, reason: ‘*** +[NSString stringWithUTF8String:]: NULL cString

Any ides anyone??[/p]
I am also getting this error.
Any help most welcome
10.6.8 server
all set up perfectly, but that script will not run….
Quote by: brianwells[p]I understand that the order of Active Directory and Open Directory matters if you have any user name conflicts. The user from the first directory in the list will be used and any duplicate in the other will be ignored (there may be a log entry to indicate that there was a conflict).

Is that correct?
Quote by: trampoline[p]What are the pro’s and cons ?
The reason I ask (and I thought I had posted earlier on this but it appears not) is that I work for a company which installs OSX systems.
We are quite familiar with the cylinder of destiny and have installed it many times…
Now a few months ago we visited a school outside of London and they seemed to want this setup.
We did not hear from them again but yesterday I talked with them and they seem to have been pursuaded that a straight AD authentication to their AD home directory is the way to go… this is with music studio mac’s so there is going to be a problem….
My Question is what are the main benefits of using the Cylinder of destiny with augemented records… I know it’s great but how do I explain the BENEFITS to someone… especially when these are music studio macs…
Obviously caching temp files locally is one benefit…
Can any one give us some pointers ?
Thanks.[/p]
There must be some clear Pro’s that people can think of ???
These people are using garageband so really a windows server is not the best they could be using I think…
Please if someone can just do a bullet point PRO’s list for me that would be great… also it would possibly be useful for others who may wonder why you need the Cylinder of Destiny etc…
Quote by: rakhi+gupta[p]Hi,

We have installed Mail for Mac OS server 10.6. Vacation notice does not work as it supposed to be.
When we on the vacation notice it does not start the automatic message. Every time to make it work
we need to delete the vacation.db file under email rules and it will wipe away the previous vacation
messages.

Any help is really appreciated.

-Thanks
Rakhi[/p]
You put the notice on the day BEFORE you want it…
One email is sent per person (to avoid message loops)
Messages start to go out after 12.00 midnight…. Do not setup with a rule on the client side….

To be honest I don’t see the need to create the home directories with this command as as you have found they are created on login anyway !

I have this with a 10.6.3 server all accounts fail afp authentication with this error…
web login etc is fine…
anyone know what this is ?

I have the same problem for about 20 users.
We have a 10.4 server, I believe it shoudl be easier to migrate users to OD BEFORE Upgrading to snow leopard as snow leopard uses dovecot which has a GUID naming of the mail store.
I Created a test user in the local directory, sent and recieved a ew emails.
Deleted the user (After exporting the user)
Imported the user into OD and reset the password…
Problem is it does not work, the account is fine but all old emails disapear…
So Until I get this one sorted I can’t upgrade to Snow Leopard and I really need to.
Any suggestions ?

Maybe a login hook to a script ?
That would be easy enough..?

Does anyone know how to install Go Daddy Chained certificates so that they actually work on OSX snow leopard ?
Out of the box, no warnings etc… ?
Quote by: bschappel[p]Here’s how I handle this problem.

Go visit RapidSSL ( http://www.rapidssl.com/ ). Click the link to buy a new cert. When you get to the page that lets you choose the type of cert select Competitive Replacement. You can get a RapidSSL cert for free this way.

The RapidSSL cert is a single root (non-chained) cert. It works wonderfully with OS X.[/p]
yes It appears to offer a free certificate, but even when I am very careful to enter in just one year etc.. it tries to charge anything from $59 to $79,
very odd…
I will look into it and phone them …
Quote by: patgmac[p]Yes, you’ll need to use augment records. Take a look at the scripts here which may help:
http://www.bombich.com/mactips/scripts.html[/p]
Thanks,
One issue we seem to have is using these scripts is we cannot specify the home folder location with createhomedir -s this is a problem in that
1/ home folders are created under a different folder name from the ONLY one specified in Open Directory for AD users and also it seems to try to create home directories for all users on the AD domain even though we have only imported a single group, so we must have something wrong somewhere….
Quote by: macshome[p]IIRC, it’s 10 user connections. It’s the same limit that’s in Mac OS X client…[/p]
So why are the users logged in twice and how might we limit it ?
User has
1/ network home
2/ Other Network mounts etc…
