I originally posted this in Mail, but I’m thinking this may be more appropriate. My apologies for those seeing this twice.
OK, there’s a few layers to this, so I’ll take it one step at a time.
We have an XServe running 10.5 Server that was set up as a temporary mail server for a handful of our users. The accounts are local accounts on the server, and it runs just fine.
But now the “temporary” is becoming more permanent, and in the meantime we’re in the process of setting up an Open Directory infrastructure. So, what I need to do is to migrate these mail users (about 10 of them) over to Open Directory authentication, and I need to know the best way to do that.
Now, I’ll throw a couple of other items out there, and if any of this makes it easier to do what I am talking about, then please let me know. If it doesn’t, then ignore it and I will tackle those issues later.
I’ve purchased a 10.6 upgrade for the mail server, just haven’t installed it yet.
I also have a comparably configured Xserve that I am not using for anything yet. If it’ll help having a new box to set things up on, I have that option.
Also, the Open Directory we have is brand new and I am the only one really using it at this point. If it’s easier (and possible?) to upgrade the mail server to an OD master and redo the rest of the OD stuff we’ve done, that’s acceptable too.
If anyone has tips, I’d appreciate them.
