ParticipantWhat are the pro’s and cons ?
The reason I ask (and I thought I had posted earlier on this but it appears not) is that I work for a company which installs OSX systems.
We are quite familiar with the cylinder of destiny and have installed it many times…
Now a few months ago we visited a school outside of London and they seemed to want this setup.
We did not hear from them again but yesterday I talked with them and they seem to have been pursuaded that a straight AD authentication to their AD home directory is the way to go… this is with music studio mac’s so there is going to be a problem….
My Question is what are the main benefits of using the Cylinder of destiny with augemented records… I know it’s great but how do I explain the BENEFITS to someone… especially when these are music studio macs…
Obviously caching temp files locally is one benefit…
Can any one give us some pointers ?
Thanks.June 16, 2010 at 12:12 pm #378773trampoline

Thanks.[/p][/QUOTE]There must be some clear Pro’s that people can think of ???
These people are using garageband so really a windows server is not the best they could be using I think…
Please if someone can just do a bullet point PRO’s list for me that would be great… also it would possibly be useful for others who may wonder why you need the Cylinder of Destiny etc…October 19, 2010 at 2:02 pm #379668trondah
ParticipantThe only reason you would want a cylinder of destiny setup is if you host services (that require extended attributes) on an OSX server for AD users and you don’t want to extend the AD schema.
If you don’t need augmented records then I don’t see any reason to do it, it only adds complexity. You’ll need to bind all clients to both AD and OD.
