ParticipantNo, neither.

ParticipantUsing the command “httpd -c DEBUG” showed that the file mod_jk_fm.so would not load (reason unknown). That’s part of FileMaker Server Advanced v8. The path was incorrect so I modified the config file, but that didn’t help. A little more googling and I surmised that I might need to upgrade to the Universal Binary version to run on my Intel Xserve, so I’ve ordered the $50 CD from FileMaker.
I realize that most of you don’t really care, but I’m posting in case someone else is searching on some of the included terms.

ParticipantSolved the domain name problem by removing one of them from DNS and shutting down the interface. Then I used ipconfig, which led me to changeip, which cleared up the problem.
But httpd still won’t start, and there’s nothing recent in the httpd error log to clue me in.
Any ideas?

Get one machine working and then export the Internet Config configuration.

Whoa! Flashback time.
The only Internet Config I could find on my system was dated 1997.
Is that Tiger-specific? We only have Panther.

ParticipantThanks. I’ll go check that out.
Much appreciated.

ParticipantI get the same thing on a network with only 24 users. Seems like the original bunch of users shows up, but the newer ones don’t. As the original poster indicates, all of them can use the system, and WGM can display them if searched specifically, just not all at the same time.
It’s a pain, but not fatal.

ParticipantTop’s showing about 480MB free. Shouldn’t be thrashing.
I downloaded and ran Memory Stick, just to take a look, and it immediately stopped thrashing. I can now switch among apps without serious disk-related lag. I quit Memory Stick and so far it’s still OK.
Befuddled, bewildered and bemused.

ParticipantHere’s the answer:
Send a UNIX command: system_profiler SPApplicationsDataType
It will return the machine name, IP address, and a list of the installed software (name, version, last mod, path, getInfo). It can then be cleaned up for import into a database.
Works on multiple systems simultaneously. Very quick.

ParticipantWell, since you haven’t had any response yet, I’ll throw in 2 cents worth:
I made a FileMaker database into which I import the log files. Then I use searching/sorting to look through it. It’s linked to a database of our static IP addresses, so I can see who’s involved. Pretty simple, but my logfiles generally aren’t that big, and the SonicWall logs aren’t very detailed anyway.

ParticipantWe use LDAP for addresses and MeetingMaker for schedules/calendars.

ParticipantThanks Joel.
I just copied the first start item (i.e. serveradmin) into a new script and run that one minute later via cron. That worked for last night.
Seems like it’s a timing issue, since it will start OK if run the command from the terminal, or after the mailback script has finished.
It’s just an Xserve 1.33DP. I wouldn’t think that’s too fast.

ParticipantDunno, but I’d start rooting around in the various log files for hints.

ParticipantIn the Server Admin app, select Open Directory, then Settings->Authentication. Maybe there’s some things you can do with those settings.

ParticipantAFAIK, you will need to create user accounts. If you have the basic info available for all users, maybe there’s a way to import them all. Look at the Open Directory documentation that came with Server (i.e. “Open Directory.pdf”).
For the domains, start Server Admin, select the Mail service, then Settings->Advanced. That’s where you might enter the various domains for which you’ll accept mail.
I know this isn’t a huge help, but I’m new to this myself. Today’s our first day live with the new mail system, and aside from losing a few of the boss’ email due to Postfix not restarting after backup, it’s going pretty well. Of course, none of the users wants to read my informative emails about how to use the system, but that’s to be expected.
Good luck!

ParticipantWell, for starters, there’s the Apple documentation (in pdf format) that comes with Server. Look for the one titled “Mail Service.pdf”
They’re also available somewhere on Apple’s site.
