Ok, now that the webserver is starting, I need to open some ports for the applications.

I use Server Admin, enable the Firewall and a range of ports (say 5000-5010). Then using Network Util, there’s nothing shown as open–no ports at all.

If I turn off the firewall, Network Util shows some of the ports, like 311 (Srvr Admin), 443 (SSL) and 5010, but nothing in 5000-5009.

First, why doesn’t Network Util show the open ports with Firewall enabled?

Second, if 5010 is open with the Firewall off, is that because the running service opens the port (not having anything to do with Firewall settings, since it’s disabled)?
