I’ve just realized that I probably should have put this in the Exim Installer Section – I hope not too great a gaffe! Any answers to my questions above greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

I have set this up and it worked perfectly first time in OSX. Thats the problem it only worked from OSX client to OSX server. I tried for days to get win 98 or 2000 to connect but it doesn’t.
It seems to not ask for password once connected as the OSX does so cannot get through once dialled in. It connects with the password list and authenticates but can’t see network. I can also ping the internal server from the Win machine

Any ideas on sorting this out.

Thank you very much for the tip on Sendmail. With your help and the documentation at http://www.macdevcenter.com/lpt/a/2663 , I was able to set up the Sendmail email server and I am now receiving the notifications. Yeah!!!

Now, one more little problem, with a long explaination…

I am trying to set up the web interface for Nagios. I can get to the interface by going to http://127.0.0.1/nagios/ (for some reason http://127.0.0.1/nagios doesn’t work). Also, I can’t access any of the cgi’s like I think that I should be able to. When I click on them (e.g. status), I get the message “The requested URL /Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables/status.cgi was not found on this server.” However, I can access the status cgi by going to 127.0.0.1/nagios/cgi-bin/status.cgi ; likewise for the history.cig . But, oddly enough, I can’t access the other cgi’s this way.

I really feel like I’m gaining on this little project – my first attempt at any unix programs.

Thank you for any more help.

Well, I think I figured it out (it’s working fine so I seem to have). I am using Gimp-Print and CUPS and am printing using IPP over HTTP. Works great, although I am stuck with the Gimp-Print driver which isn’t the best for photos from my testing. Still not sure why I couldn’t print with the Rendezvous print service.

Any thoughts on print quality and Gimp-Print?

Mookie2mt: The link you gave me doesn’t seem to be working. Can you re-post it?

I was afraid I might have to do this, I think in order to do CUPS, I’ll have to use Gimp-Print, which based on my tests, seems to have significantly worse quality with my printer (Epson C62) than the Epson drivers, according to my tests.

Also, with my access point, the last one had a defective chipset (very wacky problems) and I have a new one now – warranties are Good Things. But no changes on the printing, even though the access point is working properly.

I won’t speak for the 10.1.x mail server, but the 10.2 AMS is well documented in the OS X Admin Guide 12/19/02.

I have a wireless network set up in my house and I print to my HP connected to my imac over the network using CUPS. It works great and I haven’t had a problem yet. There are very good directions at this link:

I finally took the time to type in the full “tail” command, with the -f and everything, and wow, it updates in real time. 😳

“No, Granny, you’re not doing it properly. Poke a hole in the big end, bite a hole in the little end, and suck that egg right out of the shell…”

    Sorry about that.

I still think GeekTool is fun, though.

    Hi,

I like using Console.app to view the system log while troubleshooting VaporSec. It updates in real time, so you can see exactly what action you did produced a particular log entry.

Of course you can’t filter out the non-racoon stuff, but (at least on my system) the system.log is fairly quiet.

For even more fun, try GeekTool, and have your desktop background be the system.log file. http://projects.tynsoe.org/rubrique.php3?id_rubrique=4

In theory, you can have the output of a command also be your desktop, so I suppose you could use your tail grep method and filter out all the non-racoon stuff. I can’t get this feature to work, though.

    Enjoy,

    Doug

I have followed all the setting as per this forum on the Linksys VPN Router. And it does not work. I am wondering if it is because of the Airport card. I am trying in a wireless network.

On the vapoursec gui I have set the ip address of the network on the remote site as 192.168.1.0/24.

    I hope this is correct.

    Please advice

Scripts are not an option. It will definitely need to be done this way. Direct with out a script issuing the commands.
