[u] I imported the grey install disc (build 10J3210), .[/p]
Really? I thought that was a no no??? I thought we were restricted to “vanilla” OS discs or is that just “best practice”?

    Hi All

Thanks for the replies. I did manage to cobble together a netboot set using a nightly build of DeplyStudio which did boot the ThunderThighs MacBooks but there was functionality lacking in Deploy then.

Suffice to say everything has been updated now including instaDMG so there is balance in the Force once more. The Rebel Alliance can continue its campaign to…

Carried away there but as everyone will now know it’s all working without having to sacrifice any chickens or create custom workflows and netboots. I did have to build a master for thunderthighs and 10.6.7 and capture it the old way. How last century…

    Onwards and upwards eh?

    Cheers

45gig is big? my Art School image is bigger. CS5 and Final Cut Studio will do it. As we do not control AD but everyone has to use it for login we have to try and put as much in the image as possible which is not ideal or best practice but to use an ITILism is a “workaround”. we just never get to effect a solution…

i do have a snow server which i use for deploy (studio), netboot and general storage for me but not managed prefs due to the AD situation. i have thought of AD and OD binding but not had time to try it out. i would love to use managed users and prefs however i’m not sure i will be allowed…

i’ve only ever used uptodate so i have no idea about the other but there is no diff file for iLife 11.

true but it’s pretty straight forward and gives you an up to date single pkg at the end. deleting what is not required is pretty straight forward from the snap shot but then i’ve had to do it few times now for various things and you get a feel for it.

Composer is the easiest way to package it all up fully updated into a single installer for insatDMG.

and thanks for all the help to date. once i’ve imaged and deployed i’ll be looking to add mcx to the instaDMG workflow to round it off. more research on the server side!

got it working. just popped it under my includes and it’s going like a treat. Now I have it working i shall go back and look at any mpkg’s i’m using and apply this practice to anything that needs it. a great addition to the tools.

thanks, that’s crystal clear. does it matter where it goes in the catalog file? under the includes perhaps?

    regards
