    Help!

I am looking for any kind of help that will give me step by step instructions on
setting up the LDAP3 on my Xserve and tie it to the NOvell eDirectory. I found these documents called “Integrating Mac OSX and Novell eDirectory” but it doesn’t have the steps or detailed information. Right now, I have LDAP3 on my Xserve set up but am having problems authenticating to the eDirectory. Is anyone willing to share their experience or give me some light here. If you have done it and are
willing to share your documents , I will truely appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Dave,

Help! I am trying to do the same thing here and I am stuck on the “how to setup Mapping Values” It sound like you have what I wanted and am struggling to accomplish here. I have no knowledge in Novell but I think if I can get some help from you I might be able to do this.

I have LDAP3 setup on 10.4.7 Server with Open Directory Master- after promoting it from Standalone. I am now trying to tie it with the eDirectory ( NW v6.5, eDir 8.7.3.8). Please help- Here is my email. [email protected]

    Here we go then…….

I have a small test network which I have been working on for a while.

Four NW 6.5 servers, running eDir 8.7.3, Zen 4.01.

Using the schema extensions from macenterprise.org, and a few changes from their eDir Directory Access plug in I have got most things settled.

10.3.9 logs logs in with eDir Username and password. Home directory on NW server (via AFP), mounted shared drives, MCX based on Computers, Computer groups, User Groups or Users(got WGM pointing at eDir), serving users web sites from ‘Sites’ folder in home dir, ssl authentication, printing(IPP, great via MCX and got PCounter working !).

A few tricks on the windose side; Re-directed home folders into mac equivalents (My Documents to Documents, My Pictures to Pictures, etc) So users see a ‘osX’ style home directory, even managed to get the iTunes database working on both platforms ! (waiting for iCal and for windoze). God bless ZenWorks.

Users and Groups are imported via LDIF files, (used Applescript to create import file from a .csv file) Universal passwords. Computers and computer groups are also imported via LDIF, (Gotta love applescript !).

I Used a great piece of software called ‘Homes’ (look for it in the cool tools section of Novell.com) to create home directory top level folder (and set permissions) and then had to get a fellow tech to write an app to create complete home directories inside. (yeah, I didn’t want to manually copy a template home directory to 1500 users home directories – ChrissyBoy; you are a life saver !)

Great you say – yeah I did too, – till I worked out how much space we’d need to store our Staff and Students Home Directories + document space + Shared files, etc !

So has anybody any experience of Xraid & Netware ?. I’ve looked around and all I can find is the certification page on both novell.com and apple.com.

Also, I’m looking to get the address book looking at eDir (along with outlook on windoze) – I cant find what LDAP values it uses so I can map them in my DA plug in or create one just for Contacts. Any ideas?

Looking at Tiger & Netware – Im at the same position as 10.3.9 but I would like to get the new features working too (network views, proxy settings, etc) so if anybody has any little gems of info, they would be much appreciated !

    Thanks in advance

And if can help anyone on their integration……….

    Dave

    Umm.

    Never mind.

I did a stupid thing – after the first time I had successfully started the Software Update Service I changed the server’s own Software Update prefs to point to itself to test… Clever. Will start getting treated for Alzheimer’s tomorrow.

Please enjoy a good laugh at my expense,

Sorry to cut in, but the original poster appears to have dropped the conversation.

I’m having the exact same issue with the same error in the system.log. I’m able to start swupd from the command line with either the start or graceful commands but I can’t start it using Server Admin and the service doesn’t start automatically at bootup after starting and rebooting. swupdctl configtest says everything is a-ok.

    Thanks for any help,

    Mike

Exchange X, with the latest upgrade, can connect to an Exchange 5.5 server. After the upgrade, go to Tools. Then Accounts. You will see Exchange in the selection.

Yes daylight is a very nice piece of software well worth looking at.

There is a new piece of mail software in town that matches nearly everyhting we need,.

    http://www.kerio.com

Nice easy interface entourage interacts with it for ldap address books, local contacts can be synched to webmail, calendar also to webmail. Also works for outlook and works very very well, is also very cheap for what it offers. Bye Bye communigate we have found a nice alternative that just about has it all. You can also edit the ldap server bit from outlook as an admin user or from the webmail side and it si done. No messing about.

Thanks for the options , this should improve as time goes on for all of us as it is a basic need for most users.

Come on guys how many people run OSX with entourage and want shared calenders and address book in a small commercial office 10 -20 users. We have hundreds of customers in this category yet I cannot find ONE proper solution.

XC connect seem to address the issue but their software doesn’t work that well.

    Any ideas please

Just wanted to bump up this post and see if anyone had the answer how to force a OS 10.3.5 server to rebuild or verify the contents of the LDAP directory.

    Thanks!
