So the problem of Macintosh HD remains, even with the last svn update (462).

    Hello,

I’ve tried for about 5 hours to make an image of 10.8.2, no chance. It was working last month so i don’t understand the problem. The only change (i think) is that i have mage an update of instaDMG to r462. I have in fact 2 problems :
    – i have to reboot each time i want to create an image, if i want that the installer disk be found
    – more problematic, if the installer disk is found, there is no image in OutputFiles folder : in terminal we see that pkg are installed, the image created, but all this in a few seconds !!! I have tried just to install with 10.8.vanilla.catalog, without any pkgs, but same problem.

I really don’t know what to do

So please, any help would be grantly appreciated !!!

    Thanks

    Christian

Great, that was the solution. So with 10.8, we have to put the line about the installer builds not only in 10.8_vanilla.catalog, but also in the general.catalog which refers to 10.8_vanilla.catalog.

Many thanks for your help !

    Hello,

I have quite the same problem. Last year i made images for MacOSX 10.7.4 with success (on MacOSX 10.7.2). So this year, i clone the system and restore a new machine for trying to make images with MacOSX 10.8.2. I update instaDMG to rev 458. I use InstallESD.dmg found in the Apple installer for the 10.8.2, a general catalog with 2 updates (Java and iTunes) and when i enter sudo ./instaUp2Date.py -p general, i have this :

Parsing the catalog files for general
    000JavaForOSX
    000iTunes10.7

Finding and validating the sources for general
000JavaForOSX – found based on guessed name and verified in less than one second
000iTunes10.7 – found based on guessed name and verified in 1 second

Finding the Installer disc for general

Last year, i put InstallESD.dmg in InstallerDiscs folder, but now i try InstallerDiscs or BaseOS folders, and always this message that it is unable to find OS Installer disc. I have reboot many time, put out the InstallESD.dmg from the folder, and put on. Nothing, always this message.

    SO HELP PLEASE

    Many thanks in advance

    Hello,

I simply use first a pkg which copy, by example, the MacTeX-2011.mpkg in a folder name Enveloppe (or what you want) in /Applications. Then, in the script of firstboot, i use the command :

    /usr/sbin/installer -pkg /Applications/Enveloppe/MacTeX-2011.mpkg -target /
    /bin/rm -R /Applications/Enveloppe

    Hi,

    I answer myself !

In the CreateUserLion.pkg, you can specify the UniqueID as 499 for the hidden user. Then you can add to lines in post flight script :
    – defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow Hide500Users -bool YES
    – sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow SHOWOTHERUSERS_MANAGED -bool false

    Hello Rusty,

Many thanks for your quick and detailed answers. It could be a good idea, but some things aren’t clear for me :

OK, so, when we applied createLionUser.pkg, home folder aren’t created, it’s the system which create them on the first boot. We try to manage all preferences by script, for all applications, but sometimes it’s too complicated and we have to copy preferences files (by example iTunes). The idea is to fix the preferences in User template (by script or file copy).
Normaly, the home folders are build, using the User Template. What will happen if we set by ourselves home folders, the User Template won’t be used ? Or there will be some kind of merge ?

If the User Template isn’t used, no merge, it seems for me quite time consuming to make 4 complete home folders. Our different users will have only a few differences, don’t you think it will be better to make all the work in User Template, and after that to copy some files in the different home folders. Perhaps on the first boot, when the home folders are build. But does the home folders are all created on first boot, or only the first one ?

I will take a coffee, good idea :-))

Thanks for the answer and the delay for my answering

Ok, so we are trying to do it with firstboot.mpkg
