    Hi,

could you help me, i have just a one question, I have successfully created an update server,it is working very fine and all the clients are bound to this update server, what i have observed, is that, when new updates are available and being downloaded on the server this will show up in the update list in the update server and the OLD update version will be gone, like xsan, the latest version now is xsan 1.4.2, but i don’t want to update into this version since all our xsan system are running 1.4.1, when i try to search it on the update list in the update server, the xsan version 1.4.1, its not there anymore, but when i go to the files in /usr/share/swupd/html where the updates are saving and downloading the updates, the xsan 1.4.1 files are there.

is this the actual behavior of the Software Update service?, can i still show the old version of xsan in the update list on the update server so that i can enable it and can be seen in the client so that i can still update to this specific version?

    please help, any advice?

    note:
My server is Intel base and i’m running 10.4.10 Server

I have the same error on my system console log

Nov 12 03:15:00 playout1 cp: error processing extended attributes: Operation not permitted
Nov 12 03:15:00 playout1 cp: error processing extended attributes: Operation not permitted
Nov 12 03:15:01 playout1 cp: error processing extended attributes: Operation not permitted

after seeing this the server becomes unresponsive all services are down and nothing works for about 20mins and then a reboot would simply fixed the issue

the server is an intel based machine running Mac OS X Server 10.4.10

the thing is we are mounting a shared drive from a windows server through SMB and copied a 5MB file

the progress bar is showing zero KB and cannot be force quit and if you try to force quit this will affect all the services including the ARD agent to not function anymore

we have encounter this issue for some time now, this will also arise if copying from remote desktop by dragging the selected machine

and also copying from afp to afp seems very slow in any mac os x or server it will just copy in a speed of .5MB per second

any ideas on how to solve this issue

    thanks

Where to find your e-mail files
Within Outlook Express, your data (e-mail messages) are saved in folders with a .dbx extension, for example, “Drafts.dbx”. You can back up your Local Folder data by copying the .dbx folders to another location on your hard drive or to replaceable media.

    Important Note
If you are backing up your messages to a diskette, tape, or zip disk (considered to be “replaceable media”), place the formatted media in the appropriate drive to begin the process.

To find the .dbx folders, use Windows’ search function to search for them.

    1. Click Start.

    2. Select Find.

    3. Select Files or Folders.

    4. In the Find: All Files dialog box, type

    .dbx

    5. Click Find Now. You will see a list of all your Outlook Express “.dbx” folders.

    6. Select the Local Folders you want to copy.

    7. Copy the folders to another location on your hard drive or to replaceable media.

I had this problem before but haven’t really solve it at all, where dashboard is not allowed to run, but still many students/users can open it. I tried some test really why they(users) can open it, I was amaze that even if you will delete the dashboard application, pressing F12 will still open it. I haven’t check if there is a dashboard app in CoreServices folder, the remedy i made is that when users login usually at 10 in the morning, I will ARD them and sending unix command to stop the dashboard running, I will perform this only once.

defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES

the next time they will login they cannot access it even pressing F12 as long as they are using their account, but if its a new account you will have to perform it again. It’s kinda tiring.

    or

I will delete the Dashboard in the Application folder and set the shortcut F12 to perform nothing when they pressed it in the Systems Preferences, but this is a very tiring to do.

What I really wanted to do is how to disable the Dashboard using the WGM just like any other apps anyone have ideas? Teach Us How…
