All of the services stalled recently on my Xserve, simple soft reboot resolved it I think it’s because of QuarkXpress 6.52 user data forks.

I went to the Console to look at system logs and the console that opens says:

May 11 03:15:01 zigxserve cp: error processing extended attributes: Operation not permitted
May 11 03:15:01 zigxserve cp: error processing extended attributes: Operation not permitted
May 11 03:15:01 zigxserve cp: error processing extended attributes: Operation not permitted

Would someone please tell me how to fix this/how it occured in the first place.

The only thing that might be happening around that time is the Win 2003 Server completing Retrospect daily backups. Other than that I can’t hardly imagine anything else. I sure as hell haven’t intentionally scheduled something.

I have the same error on my system console log

Nov 12 03:15:00 playout1 cp: error processing extended attributes: Operation not permitted
Nov 12 03:15:00 playout1 cp: error processing extended attributes: Operation not permitted
Nov 12 03:15:01 playout1 cp: error processing extended attributes: Operation not permitted

after seeing this the server becomes unresponsive all services are down and nothing works for about 20mins and then a reboot would simply fixed the issue

the server is an intel based machine running Mac OS X Server 10.4.10

the thing is we are mounting a shared drive from a windows server through SMB and copied a 5MB file

the progress bar is showing zero KB and cannot be force quit and if you try to force quit this will affect all the services including the ARD agent to not function anymore

we have encounter this issue for some time now, this will also arise if copying from remote desktop by dragging the selected machine

and also copying from afp to afp seems very slow in any mac os x or server it will just copy in a speed of .5MB per second

any ideas on how to solve this issue

    thanks
