who is your isp?

most isp are now blocking port 25 or as they say filtering port 25.
not sure if this is your problem.
debug: failed to open ‘/usr/share/spamassassin/triplets.txt’, cannot check dictionary
i can not find triplets.txt anywhere on the server!
check to see if you have a spamassassin directory located under /usr/share/spamassassin or /usr/local/share/spamassassin
does not exist in either place.
make sure that a .spamassassin directory exists in /var/amavis and chown -R clamav:clamav everything in that folder.
yes all exist here.
your local.cf should contain:
    use_bayes 1
    bayes_path /var/amavis/.spamassassin/bayes
yes, i changed the bayes_path from /var/spool/spamassasin to the above.

now i can not run sa-learn it give me an error.

    running amavisd debug
gave me better results but it said no spam learned.

    yikes.

    there are 2 settings.

one is for size of email and the other for size of mail box.

not sure if this is the problem.
You can have your smtp listen on an alternate port, perhaps 587 as other have suggested. Make sure to keep it listening on 25 too, or else you’ll have other issues.
is this a simple thing to do?
will it interfere with amavis, squirrelmail set up?

no, but your reply might be usefull some day.

let me see if i can explain.

    i have a client.
uses aol to connect to internet
uses aol mail (everything works fine)
also has a domain which i host (mail and web).
would like to use apple mail app to send mail using [email protected]

in mail app he is using receiving server as mail.hisdomain.com and sending server as mail.hisdomain.com

he can receive mail but can not send mail (to any address).

error message he gets is mail.hisdomain.com can not be contacted on port 25.
he’s trying to use the AOL smtp server to send non-aol mail?
actually no, he was trying to use my smtp server to send non aol mail (the domain that i host).

but can not get connection on port 25.

the apple discussion boards are filled with these inquiries suddenly mail app will not send mail out. somepeople are claiming that it is 10.3.6 upgrade that caused this problem.

when i tested his machine here i had a problem as well. after deleting the smtp servers several times i got it to work. when he took the computer to office and connected via aol it worked for a couple of days and then bam again there is a problem.

this could be an apple software problem (10.3.6) and not aol at all.

i am looking for a solution.
I’d next take a look at some of the 3rd party rulesets for SA. Here’s a quick and dirty take: http://lxer.com/module/newswire/view/18070/index.html%5B/QUOTE%5D

this is sweet just what i needed. i will also do an update to sa 3 to check the surbl setup.
With the afp548 setup, you’d put them in /var/amavis/etc/mail/spamassasin
although i followed your article mine is in /var/mail/spamassassin

i will take notes and post any thing i learn here.

amavisd, sa was created using your article. it’s not sa 3 but everything else is recent.

i am running on g3, but i still think it’s fast enough.

when you state “in there you can specify certain e-mail address to not be filtered. also you can turn on debug…”

    can you be more specific.

there are limits on the size of file set by sm. maybe you overlooked this.
also make sure there is no size limit on the mail file as well as the email it self.

what are the mx record at dnydns for your zone?

from the looks of it you have too many cname
they say it is bad to have an mx record point to a cname.

    it should be…

    domain.com mx 10 mail.domain.com
    mail.domain.com A x.x.x.x

    not

    mail.domain.com CNAME mailserver.domain.com

    http://www.domain.com A x.x.x.x
    domain.com A x.x.x.x

    this should do it.
