I have done the upgrade this morning on the test server running at school.
I just noticed that since the update, the weblog server is no more listing the users blogs already created. However, if i type in the name of a user’s blog, I can access to it….but can not authenticate…….
Is anyone having the same problem????
I noticed this also. Seems that I can make new weblogs for any OD users not already having a weblog, but existing ones are locked out. Hmm.
i had thought you were working from the user accounts section of workgroup manager – perhaps “contacts” in directory access needs to be mapped to the server too? (very tentative hunch)
workgroup manager does not address mail client prefs, as far as I know – probably pushing a plist for mail out to all the homes would be better (be careful of permissions)
Well, i think the 10.3.4 release allows users to use thier windows home as their os x home on the network. I believe that Joel has an article on current AD stuff in Panther on this site.
Also, for group folders I think you have to create a mount record for the share under sharing in workgroup manager…
where in the US (assuming you are an american) are you? that’s a hefty plate you have in front of you – seems like you might need somebody physically at your site…
if all the student’s are using macs, i would make a webpage with afp://your.server.domainname/user_sharepoint/username links for each homefolder – the students would click and be prompted for a password to connect – you might even be able to force ssh tunneling that way…
ftp would be the easiest cross-platform method, but NOT very secure – just make sure that no mission-critical stuff is in any student home folders.
webdave might be a little more secure, but the difficulty with webdav is that after a user authenticates, the server’s www daemon is what actually get’s at the users’s data, then hands it off to the user. this creates a lot of possible permissons trickiness.
if, after you changed the id for the first time, you had issues, it might be because the files in the home folder did not get “marked” (permissions) for that user id. i think you can use chmod and similar command to change the uid tags for files recursively…
try setting the server to “plain” – also remember that the web service has to be told to enable webmail, and the user record under workgroup manager needs to have mail enabled too.
you might try looking at the modules that are enabled in the advanced section of the web services config in server admin…i believe some of those modules are required for squirrelmail to work (they are, i think, apache scripting support modules? correct me if i’m wrong)
