I’ve edited this post to make it more concise – same query, less confusion,

OSX.3.4 – trying to set up OSX home folders on Xserve for AD users. In AD domain in Workgroup Manager under Account/User/Home I get unexpected errors:

type -14137 on line 1197 of UserVolumesPluginView.mm and

    type -14140 on line 3075 of pmmuGSearchController.mm

Xserve is bound to AD, and AD is in Authentication / Contacts.

When I login with my AD user, I get a mounted server alias on the desktop that is the Windows server where my Windows folders are stored. I would like all Mac users to login with their AD accounts and have OSX homes on the Xserve. I don’t mind if their Windows folders are stored on the Xserve as well.

I’m stuck with the errors …

    cheers

where in the US (assuming you are an american) are you? that’s a hefty plate you have in front of you – seems like you might need somebody physically at your site…

I’m in the UK – I’ve got telephone support with our Mac supplier’s technician, but bringing in a specialist is an option I’ve considered – it’s just a question of time and money (from the College’s point of view).

Well, i think the 10.3.4 release allows users to use thier windows home as their os x home on the network. I believe that Joel has an article on current AD stuff in Panther on this site.

Also, for group folders I think you have to create a mount record for the share under sharing in workgroup manager…

Thanks Joel – sorry about the lengthy posts. I’m starting as a beginner with all this – the Windows guys are interested but busy overhauling the network to XP. I’m still having trouble with NTP – I’ve got the Xserve pointing at Apple’s euro server and that’s working after I checked my Firewall rules.

The Xserve is set to broadcast NTP to the desktop Macs, but they aren’t picking up Port 123 broadcasts according to the ntpq -p report.

    Thanks again …
