ParticipantHow about creating an alias pointing to the file or parent folder on your SMB share. Put the alias in the sidebar or docs folder such that the Office ’04 Open dialog box immediately displays the alias. Wouldn’t you rather click a few buttons than type in a unc path anyway?

ParticipantIt’s set to replicate upon any change. When working correctly, it takes about 30 seconds to replicate when a password is changed, then stop replicating until the next change occurs. Mine continually replicate 24 hours a day even when no users are even logged in. It represents a constant 15-20% cpu load on OD Master and replicas that are 2.3Ghz DP’s.

ParticipantYea, I’d like to know if you figure this one out – I suppose you could even use ARD to push out the command in mass.

ParticipantHallelujah! PasswordService is no longer taking down my box. No more overflow files, replication taking only 30 seconds and no spiking cpu’s. Stable for four days and that’s saying a lot.

ParticipantOK, I’ll buy that. ntpd man indicates that “-g” is the magic switch that will jerk client time back to current immediately. However, I cannot find where the system starts ntpd to add the switch. Is there a lanchd.conf?

ParticipantMy iBook/Powerbook users frequently drain their batteries and the date goes back to 1970. It will stay this way indefinitely, until an admin logs in and either forces a lookup or manually sets the date and time. ntpd is in fact running, but never does a lookup. Ideas?

ParticipantAs for the “Server not found in Kerberos Db” error. Are all OD services running (Server Admin)? Did you add server records for OD master and all replicas (Machine records in WGM)? Look here to make sure server records exist in your Db, records should exist for each service:
$sudu kadmin.local

ParticipantWups, just found the answer:
• An Open Directory master using Mac OS X Server v10.4 won’t replicate to Mac OS X Server v10.3.
• Mac OS X Server v10.4 can’t be a replica of an Open Directory master using Mac OS X Server v10.3.
• An Open Directory master using Mac OS X Server v10.4 can replicate to an Open Directory replica using Mac OS X Server v10.4.

ParticipantThanks much, would have taken an eternity to defrag 1Tb volumes anyway. Count that as one less task necessary on a Mac, while it remains drop-dead critical on that other flavor…

ParticipantYou are correct, thanks much. Funny that the new port type does not automatically show up in the list of available ports. You simply have to click “New”, then “Link Aggregate” is available in the types of available ports. As always, Apple’s documentation is too busy explaining what CAN be done as opposed to HOW it’s done.

ParticipantNothing of any consequence in the Password Service log. However, when I change a password, and the Password Service pegs the CPU’s for 10min, see below for what shows up in the Password Service Replication log during that 10 minutes. If I set replication interval to daily, then change a password, no spike whatsoever caused by Password Service. Clearly I have some issue with password replication. I’m thinking that one of the server records in the Kerberos Db is incorrect. What tool can I use to inspect these server records, search base, etc? I’m onto something here!
