We are trying to access a document that is on a network drive (xserve OS 10.3) and several folders down. It is accessed via SMB: since we mostly have PCs in the office and do not want to deal with sharing violations.

On the Windows side, you can type in a direct network path and open the file without navigating through the folder tree. Is there any way to enter in the full path to a document in Office 2004? Perhaps a program or a script that someone has written?

How about creating an alias pointing to the file or parent folder on your SMB share. Put the alias in the sidebar or docs folder such that the Office ’04 Open dialog box immediately displays the alias. Wouldn’t you rather click a few buttons than type in a unc path anyway?
