ParticipantSo, to recap Jowy’s original question,
I work in an AASP too. Since now, we used DS in order to deliver repaired units (ex. HD problems) with reinstalled OS. Can we use InstaDMG for this?

ParticipantWhat are you trying to accomplish? Mail server? Web server?
With the info provided, now your external IP should now resolve your server. ex. if you type host
then the server.xyz.com must appears. The opposite must resolve too. I believe you must add an alias Cname in your DNS zone with the external IP matching your server name, someone correct me if Im wrong here. Kostas

ParticipantYou are using a .local namespace?

ParticipantThanks for the answer.
Ive already tried that. Everything on the Mac side is working OK, its the Windows side that has the problem. Windows clients are trying to access an ERP SQL based software, and when they are trying to access the Windows shared folder, they cant get folder listing./
Thanks

February 15, 2008 at 8:06 pm in reply to: 10.5 server issue with creating Home Folders for AD users #371540CostasPPC1
ParticipantOh yeah, i used OD to house the Automount record for ADUsers/Home Dir.
How did you managed that? Ive followed both Bombich and AFP548 papers and still no luck. I have one Windows 2003 SBS and one 10.4 Server. I need to login with the AD credentials and have Network Home folders.
If the home dir volume is on a separate Volume other than the root or in a directory within a directory, a symbolic link has to be created on the root directory.
Use the command “ln -s” to create the link.example:
ln -s /Volumes/HomeDir/ADUsers /ADUsers
Well. I have one volume on my OD Server (Tiger). I have created a folder for hosting the Homes. Shared it through WGM as home folders place. Then created Groups of AD accounts. In the WK3 Server, I set the Home tab of this user to \\odserver.mydomain.local\Homes\aduser. In WGM I set some managed prefs
The computer binds, the user logins, but no Network Home folder, and cannot manage the Sync prefs through System prefs.
Shall I put the symbolic link?
Any help appreciated…

ParticipantJosh
Im in education, but there is no Apple SE here in Greece, nor Apple Hellas or something similar. I work in a company who buys Macs from abroad and resells them in the Greek market. I will try with the European dealer.
I guess i have to ask for that: from the AD_Best_Practices_2.0 document: By adding 38 attributes and 10 classes to the AD schema, your AD system can support all Mac OS X management policies. JNote: A Visual Basic script that does the correct thing is available from your Apple representative.
Thanks

ParticipantHello Ben
I wouldnt try the old scripts. I want to try to extend the schema since I cant find the answer to my question, which is how can I apply MCX preferences to AD users.
Thanks for taking time

ParticipantSame here. That is the way Iam trying to setup a Magic Triangle solution. I guess something is wrong with DNS. Try set the domain name into the “Search Domain” box on the Network Preferences of the client.
I have tried all that, though. I couldnt get it to work the right way whatsoever.
Maybe MacTroll or someone else can help us here

ParticipantI guess you’ve followed Mike Bombich’s instructions… .;-)
I have the exact problem here. One SBS 2003 and one MacOS X Server 10.4. Ive implemented SSO and all seems to work OK. Ive made a group called Lab Users and filled it with users from AD. Ive set the preferences for the group to use Mobility – Always and Sync at login and logout. In the AD server the users home is set at \\mymacserver.mylab.local\Homes. Homes is a directory shared for Home folders through the Macintosh Server.
My problems
The user logs using the AD account.1) The home is not mounted anywhere
2) Sync is not working (there is nothing to sync message) because I cannot set the Mobility preferences into the client’s machineIf I log in with an account set on the Macintosh Server itself (not related to AD) all are working OK.
Something is wrong with the so-called Magic Triangle here…..
Thanks

ParticipantIve read a similar post here https://www.afp548.com/forum/viewtopic.php?showtopic=18754. How do you set the Tiger Server location of home folders into the Windows Server (correct path)?
CostasPPC1
ParticipantWell, OK, Ive implemented and AD-OD magic triangle using Mike Bombich’s insructions. I have a 2003 SBS AD and a 10.4 OD Master.
I have a group called ADusers witch holds the users from AD.
I need to have Network Home Folders for these users (Macintosh machines) into the 10.4 Server with login-logout sync.
Ive created the home folders’ share into the 10.4 Server.I cannot set a user from the “Active Directory All Domains” to have a Network Home folder into the Tiger Server.
Thanks

ParticipantThanks a lot for taking time
Suppose I use the company’s Internet name. (ex. company.com).
How can I declare that the website of the company is somewhere else out of the company?
