ParticipantMac OS X 10.3 server, virtual domains, use local open directory

ParticipantWell it is interesting. I ran repair disk and repair permissions prior to installing 10.3 server. I had postfix running nicely in the back end with Apple Mail Server handling the delivery. All was fine. Along came 10.3 server and lost all my users, erased my WebServer folder and broke postfix.
So what it will do when you upgrade may be a little like asking… “Apple, when will iPhoto be able to order prints and books outside of the US?” And for that matter what about the iTunes music store for the out of world residents.
As they say “The silence is deafening!”

ParticipantI initially tried creating a seccond interface in the 10.3 GUI, but the NAT setting weren’t getting applied unless I stopped and restarted NAT after booting. Using this method allows me to NAT through my single ethernet port.

ParticipantSo how can I get it to boot from the RAID? I RAIDed my two Cheetahs striped, and installed Panther Server. Installs the first disk without a problem. When it spits the first disk out and restarts, it gives me the flashing question mark, then finally boots off the Installer CD. If I take the installer CD away from it, it just sits and waits.
So, OK, I can’t boot it on a striped RAID. So I tried mirrored. Exact same story. Installs without a problem, no warnings, nothing till it tries to reboot.
As soon as i delete the RAID set, I can install it on either drive from the set, and it boots flawlessly. I installed the server on one drive, and the client on the other. Then just for fun installed the server over the client. Is there any benefit to doing this? I mean I could run the Server on my laptop too, but I don’t really see any benefit from it.
Am I missing something in my RAID setup? Would a third party RAID software be better? I know that a hardware RAID card would fix the problem, but then I have to buy a pair of drives to go with it (my ATA drives aren’t matched at all) and I’m trying to do this on the cheap. Suggestions?

ParticipantI get a script error on load too. -2706 is the number and it occurs just before the login for admin password appears. It doesn’t seem to afftect the program, although I have not been able to connect to a sonicwall yet.
November 21, 2003 at 6:02 pm in reply to: I’ve Lost my httpd_macosxserver.conf file. . . Am I screwed? #356939Anonymous
Participantevidently the httpd.conf file in osx 10.3 client is much different than the httpd_macosxserver.conf file in 10.3 server. I’ve been told that the server file houses the data that is inputed through the ServerAdmin GUI. Which is the stuff that a traditional apache httpd.conf would contain. So for some reason apple split the configuration into two files. I really think that if i could get someone to send me a copy of the httpd_macosxserver.conf file from their /etc/httpd/ directory, i could get everything running. Unfortunately, I live in a technology deprived area, and my XServe is probably the only one within a few hundred miles, Thus, Im at the mercy of folks in this BB to help.

Participant[quote:75583cd07d=”suranyami”]Has anyone gotten squirrelmail working on Panther Server? What’s involved?[/quote:75583cd07d]
Squirrelmail in panther works out of the box by enabling the webmail option in the webserver settings in the Server Admin application.

Participant🙂 great news for the Panther version, because i’ve just install it yesterday night, and i’ve been surprised VaporSec have AppleScript’s error.
As i’ve to connect to my office today, you will be very kindly if you post the new version as soon as possible
Thanks a lot.November 20, 2003 at 4:08 pm in reply to: Why does turning on VaporSec prevent ssh connection? #356916Anonymous
ParticipantA little further down the road – I’ve learned that setkey is a little bit like iptables, it sets the behavior of your network connectivity. When I used VaporSec to configure two machines the rules specified that the network connection be created using specific protocols. That was preventing the ssh cconnections between the two machines. Once I flushed the rules, the two machines were able to connect flawlessly.

Participant[quote:b1071caec4=”MacTroll”]SquirrelMail is just an interface for a “vacation” program.
We are working on getting the sieve filtering system of Cyrus, the IMAP/POP server in Panther, working on 10.3. Once this is up and running you’ll easily be able to set up vacation processing, plus there should be a plugin for SquirrelMail to work with it.
[/quote:b1071caec4]I know, and vacation seems to be painfully absent in 10.3, although I read somewhere you can get it to work with postfix as well.
Thanks for the quick reply. I’ll look into the sieve route with a collegue of mine and see what we can do. So I have a bunch of questions :
Is there already a squirrelmail plugin for the sieve system?
If there is anything worth mentioning about the implementation, please do.

Participant[quote:5e251f0fcc=”papastanley”]Hi,
You can configure the web proxy in the web services section of the Server Settings application – you’ll need to authenticate as admin for the server to connect to your OS X Server to make this change.
May require a web services restart.
If you are trying to do this from your laptop to the server you’ll need a copy of the admin tools installed (comes with OS X server, but not with OS X client)
regards
.:S:.[/quote:5e251f0fcc]
I have been using this for a while now, and am quite happy with it. Now that Mac OS X 10.3 supports authenticated proxy, I was wondering if it is possible in 10.3 Server to make the proxy server require login and passwords.

ParticipantSeems that the documentation is correct: a functioning DNS with reverse lookups is absolutely necessary for the automagic Kerberos configuration.
Did a couple of clean installs of Panther Server, but Kerberos never quite configured itself correctly. Never started up on it’s own.
And, of course, hand-rolling it is a little messy, and I’m sure I screwed things up along the way (eh… learning as I go…)
So, this time, on a client machine, I hacked up a temporary DNS, with only the single entry for the new server (I have a chicken-and-egg problem: my server is the DNS server for my network – but of course, the DNS server isn’t running when the OD setup is done at install time).
I selected “manual” setup for the network info (manual IP, router, and pointed the DNS entry to my temp DNS server). After all the config was done and the server auto-rebooted, I logged in as my admin user, typed in “kinit” and “klist” had my TGT…
What a pain. But, I hope this clears up any mysteries as to why KDC works in some installs, and not in others.

ParticipantI updated the Developer tools to the latest (Dec 22/2002, with Aug 2003 gcc update). I then stopped and deleted all the postfix binaries/directories, and redid the make and sudo make install… same problem.
at system startup, this is what I get:

Participantah, I see, the web site only talks about Panther tools, but when I log in to the developer site and go to Download Software/Developer Tools, I see the latest Dec 2002 tools there, and the updates. groovy.
however, every time I try to download them [under Netscape 7.1, OS X 10.2.8], it cancels part way [several mb into the dl] with a ‘Broken Pipe’ message.
this also occurs with August 2003 gcc Updater.
Explorer seems to be bringing the files down ok, though, so I’m a happy camper. Good to note, though. 🙂

Participantwhere would I find the latest *Jaguar* (10.2.8) Development tools? All I see on Apple’s site are the Panther tools. Panther’s definitely not ready for prime time, we’re not ready to move yet.
thanks,
