ParticipantI still want the users to have a network home folder, but only at this stage for their documents folder. I have got everything I need working, but the only issue is that the AD plugin is mounting the root share point and not the users network home folder on the desktop. I guess there isn’t a way around this???
The reason I need a local home folder is that a lot of users complain that when they login with their network login, some applications will not render properly – ie FCP and Maya…. also another main issue is corrupt preferences. By having the home folder local and created every time they login, they get a defined set of ALL application preferences, not just the ones you can setup in workgroup manager. ie. photoshop uses binary preference files that you just can’t manage from workgroup manager (that I know of).

ParticipantPossibly, are you suggesting changing the unc path for home folder on the server??
Currently the home folder path on the windows profile is: \\\\server\\Staff1\\u\\usernameSeptember 7, 2005 at 1:48 am in reply to: AD plugin – Local Home, Documents mapped to nework home #363131fherbert
ParticipantI have made some progress on this issue. I have written a script which will generate the home folder path using the information found in /Library/Managed Preferences/$USER/loginwindow.plist
I still have not found a way to hide the network home folder share point on the desktop.

ParticipantOK, so all my Kerberos clinet record file info is pointing to my OD server instead of my AD server.. is this safe just to manually type in the AD server details in place of the OD server??

ParticipantA reboot or restart works fine when I remote onto the machine to the command line via ssh, however, what I need to be able to do is just send a command to it.
When I send a command like ssh user@remotemachine ‘/sbin/reboot’ i get a “command not authorised” or something similar… the idea is not have to remote completely onto the machine as I want to run a script on an admin machine that automatically runs a script then restarts the remote machine…fherbert
ParticipantI will have some time tomorrow to visit the site and check it out..

ParticipantKDC is not running on the OSX server so I’m not sure why this would be changing the client info??

ParticipantI checked that file after I posted this topic, and sure enought it looks like the system is overwriting the config.
The working file is autogenerated by /Active Directory/my.domain.name, /LDAPv3/osxserver.my.domain.name and has info regarding ad domain controller
The non-working file is autogenerated by /LDAPv3/osxserver.my.domain.name and does not have any ad info in it!!So i have corrected the file and removed the two lines which (hopefully) will stop the system from overwriting this file.
Any ideas on why the system would be overwriting this file in the first place??
Cheers

ParticipantIt a G5 Tower. Just a note is that the drives are two different sizes – one is a 80GB and the other a 120GB, not sure if this may be part of the issue or not??

ParticipantYou are able to do port forwarding using the GUI in OS X.3.x Server. I have set it up at a site wanting to use iChat AV.. Have a look for the instructions here:

ParticipantSorry, to be clearer… running scripts on login to perform certain tasks..
ie, mount folders, setup printers, delete folders/files, link folders/files. I usually use iHook to give the user a graphical representation of what the script is up to.Basically i have a folder on the server which contains all the login scripts, a script on the client is run when a user logs in, the server folder is syncronised with the client folder, and scripts within this folder are run.
Clear as mud???
December 7, 2004 at 8:47 am in reply to: Applications ‘unexpectedly quit’ in some accounts but not in others #360112fherbert
ParticipantDo the applications quit before they open fully?? Are you using Workgroup Manager to control printers???
If you are currently using workgroup manager to “control” users printers, try disabling this feature and seeing if the apps run.
Other than that, it may be a corrupt printer setup in printer utility. Usually it will be the default printer. Try changing the default printer and see what happens.
