ParticipantFirst, I assume they were RAID level 1.
Macshome has an article here on how to do it.
I don’t think you want to repair the mirror, especially not both drives. I’ve broken a mirrored set on purpose (shut down, pull plug) a few times and can still boot from the remaining drive.
Sounds like perhaps it was RAID 0, in which case, you’re hosed. 😯chiefgeek
ParticipantYou can and should have your ISP create both an “A” record and a reverse entry for the FQDN of your server. As long as you don’t change the MX record or the WWW record in DNS, your services will continue to fxn.
Once you have the server configured and ready to provide web and mail, then have your ISP change the appropriate entries such that they point to your new server.
(The above assumes you have a static / public IP address assigned and routed to your server.)

ParticipantYou need to hand edit the /var/named/yourcompany.zone file with a text editor.
An entry such as this:
http://www.yourfqdn.net IN CNAME purple
Where “purple” in this case is the name of the server to which www. yourfqdn.net resolves should do it.
After editing, DO NOT make any changes to that zone file with Tiger Server Admin; it will bork this (and any other handmade) changes.chiefgeek
ParticipantDo you have any ACLs in place that would specifically prohibit access to the user or group?
chiefgeek
ParticipantAlso seems like if you keep an instance of Server Admin connected to the server it can spawn this problem.

ParticipantOur server that was doing this was diagnosed (on the second trip to the Apple Store two years later) with a bad optical drive. As I reflect on it, the drive always was a bit pokey. Problem was, the system installed. Every time. No errors, no nothing. And then things would begin going horribly wrong….
After having the optical drive replaced, the server is currently installed and working fine as an OD replica with a relatively light workload.

ParticipantWe had the same problem. It was the “*” in the alias section for the site. Get rid of it.
chiefgeek
ParticipantSame problem here. Using the gui.

ParticipantI’ve installed two Xserve G5s for customers with the HW raid card and three 400gb drives running L5 and would recommend it. Good speed and reasonable redundancy.
Not sure what exactly the 80gb drive is for in current setup?
chiefgeek
ParticipantFWIW, we have both our Xserve G4s on a APC 3000VA UPS. While I don’t want to say out loud what the machines HAVEN’T done for awhile (restarted themselves), they were doing so while connected to the UPS.
chiefgeek
ParticipantI’ll throw in a “third.” Tried installing awstats the other night and gave up after about three hours. A unix expert I’m not, but man, those are some convoluted directions….

ParticipantAaron Hillegass has a good book about Cocoa Programming.
chiefgeek
ParticipantHave you checked the “Disconnect when idle” settings?
This may seem silly, but it happened to me!
chiefgeek
ParticipantPull the Cisco and give it a try.
Not sure exactly how or even if the lan hw is causing the servers cpus to peg, unless there is congestion / confusion (do you like my tech terms) and it is causing the machines to resend the same data over and over.
Errors with Half / Full duplex on auto-negiotiation do strange things.
