How did you go about commenting out callbook protocol ” // ” ?? or did you just remove it? I removed it and tried to telnet but everytime I do I get a big error stating I need to rebuild my mail database, I’ll rather not do it at 120GB. Please anyone if you have any solutions respond.
I have the same problem as you impax, I can’t install the timsieved.pkg I downloaded from here. I got ahead and follow the directions given but I soon as I telnet the following madness ensues and I can’t even end my telnet session no matter what I try. I have to start and stop mail services.
Jun 21 18:52:22 nameserver sieve[3214]: DBERROR: dbenv->open ‘/Volumes/Data/Mail/imap/db’ failed: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery
Jun 21 18:52:22 nameserver master[1833]: process 3214 exited, signaled to death by 10
Jun 21 18:52:22 nameserver crashdump[3215]: timsieved crashed

Jun 21 18:52:22 nameserver sieve[3216]: DBERROR db4: fatal region error detected; run recovery
so i went ahead and skipped the telnet section, lo and behold I got filters into squirrelmail but guess what? 🙁 after I click on filter the DBError drama kicks in again. Now my question is should I be using mailbfr to repair my whole mail database or is this just a fluke?
I’m having a problem with my DNS also what do I need to change to get it back to normal? I ran the changeip -checkhostname test and i got the following
“Primary address = 192.168.0.150
Current HostName = nameserver.showroomseven.com
The DNS hostname is not available, please repair DNS and re-run this tool.”
MacTroll, while what you state is possible isn’t it a little weird that it just started this last friday? I mean I’ve been running my own DNS for over a year now (when I took over the job) and was running a KDC the entire time and I’m sure I’ve restarted several times with the kdc running at startup. I’ve just trying to find out if there is something much bigger lurking around that’s all, not trying to discredit your point.
Quote by: kd4ttc[p]
Quote by: MacTroll[p]Glad you were able to fix it. Can’t say this happens often, but if the power does go out the LDAP db could be put away dirty.
Are you now doing nightly OD backups? 😀 [/p]
Well, that is a fine question. I have just gotten started in the Server world with migration from a peer to peer topology to a server setup. I was pleased to have everything working. I do keep my clinical data backed up, and mysql files are backed up as well. (I own a medical practice.) The crash here shows me I need to get my backup plans in order, pronto, before too much more time goes by.
I have backed up my configuration data by saving the .plist files you get when you drag the icon out of server administrator. Reviewing those files shows they do not constitute a full backup of the server software. I saw that there is a backup script for Open Directory available here at afp548 for doing that, which archives the slap directory, Kerberos, and another servive. These findings beg the question: just what does one do to back up the server?

Well for me I have two raided external disks that backup up my OD Master on alternating days with the application Super Duper! (only cavit is that it can’t backup ACLs, small price to pay for creating a startup disk of my current server on an external disk). I always make sure I create an archive of my OD Master every month and back that up to my portable external disk, just in case of a fire or anything crazie like that (nothing a 128mb flash drive can’t hold).
thanks, well i got Kerberos running but it’s weird everytime the VPN freezes and I do restart the server, LDAp comes back running but Kerberos doesn’t. I have to try and add a kerberos record and then when that fails, I initiate “sudo krb5kdc” in terminal and kerberos is back up and running. This is still not comfortable for me as I would like to not start Kerberos everything single time my server goes down. The more important thing would be finding out why the VPN keeps freezing the server in the 1st place.
I also have this problem will load balancing by adding another server as connected to a directory system help? this is my recent log nothing similar to anything everyone else has posted but the symtoms are exactly alike.

The server did come back to life itself but most of the time when it does happen it doesn’t come back. any help in the right direction is helpful.
