Thanks forthe suggestion, i figured that out last night and after recreating the automount things worked again 🙂

Somehow i’ve got the idea the OD isn’t running as smooth as it did in 10.3, although it works, there are strange entries in the logs and sometime the WGM app is waiting for something if i switch to another user in the OD directory..

Let’s go googling about these entries and the meaning of all the mDNSresponder refused kerberos updates..

Hi, any luck with the create home dir problems ?

I’m currently setting up my first 10.4 server after doing loads of 10.3 WGM setups and now i’m seeing the same problem.

I did a usual o.d. install (standalone, no services, updates, repair permissions, dns, test, promote and check with WGM if administrating the od domain works).

    Thanks !

So since my boss isn’t happy to invest on expensive hardware for testing purposes i guess i have to stick with reading the manual 🙂

A x-san installation is already planned for one of our customers (why do customers only have the cool stuff 😉 ) so it comes to on the job training !!

    Hi,

I was wondering if someone on AFP548 already found a cause for the spontaneous reboots of their x-serve’s.

We experience the same thing and all lead to the PMU manager in combination with watchdog. Some users recommended to disable the “reboot when computer boots” option but for me this is no option because the server is located on another location and the downtime this brings is unacceptable.

I notitced a syslog line after a reboot:

    ApplePMU:RazzMU FORCED SHUTDOWN, CAUSE = -92

Anyone has information on the ApplePMU cause codes ? i’ve tried every dark corner on the WWW but no information on this.

The problem occured after one month after installation with no changes in this period (except for relocating the server to another location).

The server is connected to an UPS (APC) without the usb cable connected, other servers connected to this ups don’t have this problem(serveral Proliant servers and an other x-serve G5).

Could the spontaneous reboot have something to do with a defective power supply (although i can’t see any strange power behavior in Server Monitor) ?

The server doesn’t have a SCSI adapter but the Apple FC card installed which is used to connect to a FC switch.

    Greetings Dof

I’ve implemented a reasonable amount of NHD envirionments wich all run perfect for a longer perion of time now, my customers are quite happy whit it (it’s perfect sollution in combination with NetRestore). They key problem is the single point of failure because when the server is down all the users are down.

This could be prevented by implementing a failover system with the use of FC switches but for most customers the investment on a FC switch and a secondairy server is way to high.

Although a failover system is the best solution my workaround is to regualry make a clone of the server to a raid partition so in case of panic a fast machine equiped with a FC card can boot of the raid partition and let the users do their work while the server is repaired (service contracts with a response guaranty would help speed up the downtime of the server)

For some reasons i still don’t like retrospect running on a x-serve so the dedicated backup machine could do the job a a backup server.

Before using NHD test all the user applications because some of them don’t work in a NHD envirionment, Font Agen Pro and the latest Wacom tablet drivers are a real pain in the @#$.

    Hi,

Take a look at your /etc/httpd/httpd.conf file, there should be a line in there telling to include all the config files in the /etc/httpd/users directory.

In this directory you’ll find the config files of all the (web sharing) users. In this file there sould be a directive like:

    <Directory “/path/to/home-sir/Sites”>

Check if this path is pointing to the actual (Network) home directory, it could be that this directive is pointing to the location where the local home directories are stored.

Throthle the speed back to 1G did not solve the problem, changing the the firmware to version 4.0.6.02 did the trick
(more info and download here, Using this firmware also enable you to use the mac verion of the SanBox Manager)

Anyone had a succesfull build of open-xchange yet ?

The install file tells me it needs jsdk.jar, jdbc.jar, mail.jar, activation.jar and jdom.jar. My java knowledge is close to zero, so anyone can tell me if these modules are shipped with OSX (maybe developer tools ?)

I think open-xchange is worth giving a try because it’s one of the things we’re missing on OS X.
