Have you tested an account that is not in a managed group at all? I was having a similar issue until I tried a user who was not in a heavily managed group and the account was lightning quick to login. I then proceeded to test management settings and found that managing the print settings was causing the delay.

My test setup is 10.5 client and 10.4.10 server. I am currently trying to work through ways to speed up the login when the printers are managed and do not have a solution yet.

I haven’t had an issue with mcx not being applied and if anything would say a long standing issue with 10.4 appears to have been resolved as settings are always applied.

Ok, the second issue appears to be corrected by making a setting change on the XP clients.

Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Local Security Policy / Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level / Send NTLMv2 response only refuse LM & NTML.

These settings are present under the Windows Service in Server admin but unticking them does not appear to have the same effect and changing the client setting.

So changing this begs the questions should I perform the steps on all machines that login via the AD domain as well as unbound XP clients?
