Participant
Quote by: Shan+Younker[p]I’m not using portable home directories. I’ll have to contact my I.T. dept to delete and recreate the AD account. I wanted to rule out it being a ‘Mac’ problem before I contacted them.
Thanks[/p]
If you are saying that you are using Forced Local Homes (which means a local home is created on each Mac they log into) then yes, I would delete and re-create thier AD account.
If however you are using a Network Home, then I would still suggest deleting and re-creating it.

ParticipantHi,
You do not mention where the user’s home folder is located.
Since the problem follows the user, your first observation makes sense (it may be the user’s AD account) but it also could be a problem with or in the user’s home folder.
I would suggest trying both. First, try a newely created home folder for the user (saving their files first, of course) and if that doesn’t work, delete the user’s AD account and re-create it.
Low tech, to be sure, but it sounds like one or both may be the answer.

Pull the bluetooth kext.

Hi,
I tried this under 10.4.2 but after a reboot the system just recreated the files.
Is there something I missed?
Thanks,

I install it and then look at the install log. From there I build a tree and process with Package Maker.
Using ARD 3 to copy the entire (basic install) Office folder from an updated machine is really quite fast. However, I would like to learn how to use PackageMaker for these kinds of updates.
How are you building your tree. Have you automated any or all of the steps involved?
Based on the log generated from the 10.1.7 update, I don’t think building a tree manually would be the preffered method.
Thanks for any info.

ParticipantJust in case anyone reads this thread and is looking for the answer – in this setup the KDC showing as stopped is the expected behaviour on the Replica.
mhelman
ParticipantJust to be clear, the KDC is running on the OD Master, but not on the Replica.

ParticipantThe KB you suggested worked great – thanks!
Now that I am happy with the Server I have set up a Replica, however, I noticed that the KDC is not running.
This replica is 10.3.9 and was taken from Standalone directly to Replica.
Am I correct in assuming that since the Server is no longer handing out Kerberos information that the Replica would be unable to run a KDC?
If so, (and since I am only using the Server and Replica to serve preferences for the Guest Computer List) would leaving things as is be advisable?
If not, what do I need to do to get the KDC running?
Thanks,

Most of the time in a magic triangle setup you will want to remove or rename the client KDC info in the OD database to prevent it from polluting the edu.mit.Kerberos files on the clients.
Apple has a KB on it here.

OK, I’ll make the change on the Server 😉
I just don’t like removing functionality so I was looking for another way.
Hopefully this will do the trick. Thanks!

ParticipantI believe the Replica only requires SSH be on the first time it connects to the Master.

ParticipantI believe that the feature you are looking for is being discussed (or perhaps even scheduled) for an upcoming release. Check Apple’s ARD page for the latest info.

ParticipantHi,
That’s correct, SMB signing is not supported. Good work solving the problem!
If you require SMB signing then you can look at a product called ADmitMac at http://www.admitmac.com/.

ParticipantI had tested enough (after posting) to assume that was the case, but it’s nice to know for sure.
Thanks for the info.

ParticipantIf you are managing your Mac client via a Computer List on the Mac OS X Server (OD) then you will want to make usre you try the default settings first. If you did not change the cache setting for your managed Computer List then it is already at the default.
Try working with the most basic setup you can first and see if everything works properly. If so, start to add in your other settings one at a time.
You may also want to check and search the Apple Discussion Lists http://lists.apple.com/archives/ as there are many asked and answered questions there that may help.

ParticipantI have seen this happen as well. Here’s some things to check:
Are your clients being managed by an OS X Server computer list as well as authenticating to AD? If so, I found that trying to cache the settings caused problems.
Are you mounting the SMB share with AFP as well from the same client? This (as I’ve been told) is not a good idea and I would agree as it can cause some problems similar to what you describe.
HTH.
