Participantfollowup, I found some log entries that correspond to an outage time today:

ParticipantThe script doesn’t show any errors. The password field doesn’t show the null character after running it. Is the script supposed to ask for a new password, or does it attempt to use the existing password?
I tried this on a server I built fresh for the purpose of testing any fixes that might be available.

ParticipantI tried this script and it did not work.
Called Apple and was told that they are aware of the problem, so at least there is something to look forward too.
Issues like these make it really hard to reliably integrate Apple software into a windows enterprise.

ParticipantAnother update. I didn’t call Apple as I found a few posts on Apple’s discussion boards that detailed my exact situation.
My solution was simple… reinstall and leave the system at 10.4.2. Everything now works as it should!
There is obviously something wrong with 10.4.3. I used the exact same setup steps with 10.4.2 and today was very smooth sailing.

Participantupdate:
I did a clean install on the server (again) and had the same problem. I did get the ACLs working. I did not know that in workgroup manager you have to select the root volume and enable ACL support.
I followed Apple’s instructions on joining the AD and enabling kerberos support. When I used a windows machine to access the box it worked… once! After the first time (by working I mean that when you type in \\servername from the run prompt the server’s directories will be displayed within a second or two) authentication was failing.
Either windows services under 10.4.3 sucks rocks, or there is something else wrong. On Wednesday I am calling Apple for resolution since we have a support contract. I’ll post the results here.

Participantstriping wasn’t an option (it was my first suggestion). There is a backup/restore concern due to the amount of data required.
How would kerberos help? This server is not part of an open directory. Mac clients have to authenticate manually into it.

ParticipantSketch,
I found the netinfo trick on my own yesterday, glad to see others know about it. Being able to add just one or two people with local admin rights is alot easier in my environment that adding groups.
Next question… single sign on on panther client, to windows 2000 servers running services for macintoshand connecting through AFP. Is this possible? I checked out the AD webcast and it wasn’t mentioned.
