I believe you’ll find that they issues begin after the machines go to sleep, and only in the case of the new XML files (pptx docx xlsx). That is what I have found at least. I have been struggling with this issue at several sites and have yet to come up with a long term solution. I am hopeful about Lion, but I am skeptical.
