Don’t know if it will help, but if you click to another group and then click back to the group giving the error, see if there is a button on the bottom of the right pane (under the member list) that says “Upgrade Legacy Group”. If that button exists, click it.
Not sure if that is your problem as it sounds like a 10.5 fresh install and not upgrading OD from 10.4 or earlier.
