Thanks very much, Josh; that did the trick. Though I found I also needed to check on the option to launch any applications from local volumes. I guess if I knew which was needed I could leave this option unchecked; but it is no particular concern in my situation.

Yes indeed it did see me only as a guest, no name shown but .

I solved this situation by changing the password type to Encrypt, saving and then back to the normal Open Directory password. At least put it this way: that’s the only thing I did that seemed to make the difference! Does that make any kind of sense? Not to me 🙂
