Right now, if you have Casper, you don’t need to user InstaDMG. Just copy the InstallESD.dmg into Casper Admin and make sure to click on the checkbox stating that it’s and OS X installer. As long as you do this from a 10.7 box it will see it as an installer. Add the packages that you want added and compile. It will create the Image plus the recovery partition.

Nevermind, I just figured it out. Keep the installerchoices.xml in the BaseOS Folder. I’m guessing this is going to change eventually as well?

So I just updated to 383 and tried the new importDisk.py without –legacy. I saw that it imported my 10.6.3 Reference disk 10D575 and placed it in InstallerDiscs. So I’m assuming i put the installer choices in there? Then I created a new catalog file and under Builds I put 10D575. Just started up instaUp2Date.py, I’ll let you know in the morning if it worked!

With the new code coming out, will you be able to build an image for say the Mac Mini 2010 or Mac Pro 2010 on another machine? Just importDisk.py the grey disk form the Mini or Mac Pro and then have the catalog file associated with that build? Or will I still have to run that specifically on the MacMini/MacPro until 10.6.5?

So if I’m going to build the images on my iMac for now I should have two separate installs of instadmg? One for the iMac Build and one for the 10.6.3 + 10.6_Vanilla build? Just wondering because I will have two separate OS dmg’s.

Ah ok, I figured since everything seemed to be running ok with the iMac based 10.6.4 there wouldn’t be any issues with using these on anything but the Minis and Mac Pros.

So for now I should do an image with 10.6.3 reference w/ the 10.6.4 vanilla catalog and then an iMac/Mini/MacPro based image until 10.6.5 comes out?

Looking forward to seeing what’s going in 1.7!

So I’m a bit confused. I’ve always used Retail/Reference, but my brand new 27″ iMac that I’m now using to run InstaDMG came w/ a 10.6.4 disc build 10F2061. So i decided to use that instead of the 10.6.3 retail. When doing that should I just build a separate catalog file? Or if I do use 10.6.3, just reference http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1065 in the catalog?

What were the steps in instadmg that you took to get this working?

Importdisk – 10.6.3 that came with the mini, then catalog with 10.6.4 and 10.6.4 mini?

Using the retail disc and then replacing the 10.6.4 combo updater with the Mac Mini will not work. Just get the spinning pinwheel. I have casper and I’m going to try one more thing. I’m going to use the Grey discs that came with it, install OS X on there and then try out their Modular build method. I’m praying this works, if not I’m just going to install OS X on it and then shut the machine off and then do the rest through Casper.

So now we’ll need a separate image for the Mac Mini, iMac and now new Mac Pro. At least until 10.6.5 comes out. This stuff really makes my head spin sometimes.

Thanks! I thought I was going crazy for a minute there. Is it recommended to use the newest hardware anyways? I’m waiting on a new iMac so it shouldn’t be a problem soon enough. Thanks again.
