That did it. Here’s what I got:

OurMacPro2:~ root$ dseditgroup -o edit -a design -t group -n /Local/Default admin
Upgraded admin to new group format to support GUID membership.
OurMacPro2:~ root$

Thanks for al your help. Time for a Leopard footnote on the original article perhaps?

😀

As root, I ran the command dseditgroup -o edit -a design -t group -n /NetInfo/DefaultLocalNode admin but when I hit return there was no response in the terminal, instead giving me a new command line. I logged out of Root and logged in as network user jimmy who is a member of OD group design, and tried to unlock a system preference padlock. Entering that user’s credentials would not unlock the padlock. I opened Terminal and ran dseditgroup -o checkmember admin and dseditgroup -o checkmember -n . admin and both returned jimmy is NOT a member of admin.

Any help would be appreciated.

Since the demise of netinfo, will the same dseditgroup command work in Leopard?

Is the Xserve connected directly to the ISP, or going through a router first?

Alan.
