I had read that page already, but thats not the problem i have, i would be happy i had gotten that far already 😛 The drive isnt detected by the software (tried netvault with the same result, software doesnt detect the drive).

My guess is that a driver is missing, but the drive doesnt comes with a damn cd and sony’s website provides no drivers for mac, even tought they provide a diagnostics software -_-

Weird enough, moving the dns server to the nt box fixed it, I really dont wanna have static IPs on that, the only reason i have is that I shouldnt need to add them, it was suposed to work.

i’ve been finding myself finding lots of things that should work not working, getting behind my schedule with all these surprises. Frown

    Problem solved.

but the solution really made me sad… talking to an apple engineer he told me that the fact that osx starts everything at the same time (really forgot the english word for it.. paralel ?) dns may start after some services and they would become broken…

solution ? back to my win2k3 server box… dns server setup there and ntp is up and working..

really… if i had to use my windows box to run dns why the hell spend all this money to get the uber xserver.. if the software is flawed like this …

Same thing… ntp still not working

my mac mini and my windows box can get time from pool.ntp.org just fine, but my server refuses to do so….

and in the windows box i cant make any user logging on the osx server to change its time settings cause they dont have the permission to do so, and i have no idea how to give them permission to do it.. they need to have it or i cant make net time /domain /set /yes run at the logon script.

    help ?

well.. i did start from the scratch again..
installed the system on my mirrored 500gb drives like i wanted,
in the instalation i choose standalone server.
then i updated the system and setup the dns server like in one the gazilion pdfs i’ve been reading from apple tells me how to do it (in the end the dns stays the same as before heh Razz)

when i use the workgroup manager i get the same message as before..

going to make it od master now.

    wish me luck

Thanks for the answers guys, now if i could get some info on question 1 and 4 Big Grin

I’ve finally found an Apple reseller on my city (hard to find one around here, not to mention theres absolutely no training for Apple solutions here in Brazil) and they’re getting a tecnician to contact me, so hopefully my questions will be answered, and it looks like they will lend me a XServe to play with for a week or two.

Thanks for the help so far.

Here in Brazil the Xserve G5 2.3DP would cost about the same as the Quad G5, so it would only a matter of what hardware is the best for the task. Given that its quad processed i guess the Quad G5 would have more horsepower, but is this hardware adequated to be a server ?
