    I’m having some issues with ntp, my server is set to synchro time.apple.com, my clients (a mini and a winxp) are set to synchro to my server, buuuut, all three of them are showing a different time.

    For the windows Xp the answer is simple, geting an access denied for net time /domain /set /yes, cause the user doesnt have the access to change time, even tough I could when i authenticated to the win2k3 server.

    On the mini my system log shows no errors for a cat /var/log/system.log|grep ntp . Now on the xserve i get the following errors.

    Mar 9 08:58:11 xserve ntpdate[116]: the NTP socket is in use, exiting
    Mar  9 08:58:11 xserve ntpd[267]: bind() fd 5, family 2, port 123, addr 0.0.0.0, in_classd=0 flags=1 fails: Address already in use
    Mar  9 08:58:11 xserve ntpd[267]: bind() fd 5, family 2, port 123, addr 127.0.0.1, in_classd=0 flags=0 fails: Address already in use
    Mar  9 08:58:11 xserve ntpd[267]: bind() fd 5, family 2, port 123, addr 172.16.50.111, in_classd=0 flags=1 fails: Address already in use
    Mar  9 08:58:20 xserve ntpd[267]: sendto(17.254.0.28): Bad file descriptor

    Right now, my osx server show 9:37, my mini 9:28 and my winxp 9:29 heh Big Grin

    Any tips or more info i should provide ?

    Its a 10.4.4 btw.

    Same thing… ntp still not working

    my mac mini and my windows box can get time from pool.ntp.org just fine, but my server refuses to do so….

    and in the windows box i cant make any user logging on the osx server to change its time settings cause they dont have the permission to do so, and i have no idea how to give them permission to do it.. they need to have it or i cant make net time /domain /set /yes run at the logon script.

    help ?

    Problem solved.

    but the solution really made me sad… talking to an apple engineer he told me that the fact that osx starts everything at the same time (really forgot the english word for it.. paralel ?) dns may start after some services and they would become broken…

    solution ? back to my win2k3 server box… dns server setup there and ntp is up and working..

    really… if i had to use my windows box to run dns why the hell spend all this money to get the uber xserver.. if the software is flawed like this …

    Weird enough, moving the dns server to the nt box fixed it, I really dont wanna have static IPs on that, the only reason i have is that I shouldnt need to add them, it was suposed to work.

    i’ve been finding myself finding lots of things that should work not working, getting behind my schedule with all these surprises. Frown
