Try a mysql -V and you’ll see that the build indicated is for PPC. Not entirely clear if this just represents the code fork or also means that it was compiled for PPC (which seems drastically unlikely, but you never know).

According to the Using SAMBA docs (conveniently included in 10.3 at
file:///usr/share/swat/using_samba/ch08.html)

the fix is to include the line
veto files = /Icon?/
in my smbconf file.

If anyone has any experience with this procedure, locking the conf file, etc. I would love to hear about it. thanks!
