    Hi all,

On our mixed-platform network, our Windows users often have trouble copying folders from the OS X Server, due to the invisible (to the Macs, anyway) Icon files in many of the folders — the Icon files end in a newline character IIRC, so the Windows users see it as an illegal file name.

Short of running a nightly cron job to delete these beasties, is there not a way in SAMBA’s config to avoid sharing certain file names? I am about to dive into the documentation but I was hoping to find a shortcut here.

    thanks!

According to the Using SAMBA docs (conveniently included in 10.3 at
    file:///usr/share/swat/using_samba/ch08.html)

the fix is to include the line
    veto files = /Icon?/
    in my smbconf file.

If anyone has any experience with this procedure, locking the conf file, etc. I would love to hear about it. thanks!
