Please see my post at the Apple Discussion boards: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12234632#12234632. While this is a problem description, it might provide an avenue for your to achieve at least something.
Quote by: MacTroll[p]What was the problem that you were looking to solve here?

You needed to change the OD admin’s password?[/p]
I needed to change the OD admin’s password, because it had changed itself between releasing a PC from it’s Mac OS X Leopard Server hosted Windows domain and attempting to rejoin it.

The suggestion I was given elsewhere was to demote my Open Directory server to “standalone” and then to re-promote it to Open Directory Master. This meant that I had to rebuild my (small) Open Directory user database. I also then demoted the SMB service to providing only a standalone server, before re-promoting it to Primary Domain Controller. I then had to re-share my user home folder share and include the proper afp URL in the user’s OD records. All is working now.

Also, over at Mac Mac Work they have instructions on how to do this. Refer to the sidebar on the right to find the topic “Master Open Directory” (Part 1 and 2).
Quote by: MacTroll[p]Can you use dscl to walk the Leopard directory after you have bound to it?[/p]
With a little time studying the dscl man page I could probably do that, given that I had never heard of that command before. However, would you, MacTroll, mind assembling a command like that, more or less ready to use?
