Today marks the release of 10.5.3 Client and Server. There have been a few nasty bugs in Leopard Server that have given us a headache or two. The primary being being the Directory Services issue with AFP connections. The other one I wrote about awhile ago was in Server Admin and creating DNS records. According to the release notes these bugs and more are eradicated. As well as AD binding issues, DHCP, Software Update Server, Password changes and augment directory records.  Please post comments back to see if you 10.5 Server annoyances are gone. I know I have quite a few things to test this week.

(Ed. Note. One of our favorite additions in 10.5.3 is the ability to create augment records in WGM now. So all you advanced server config users rejoice!)

One of the biggest complaints I heard from other consultants and support folks about Mac OS X Server 10.4 was about how bad it was to work with the DNS GUI. They pined away for Panther or relegated themselves to hand coding their zone files. With Leopard come some welcome changes and a nasty bug.

Some of you may be familiar with CMS solutions like Mambo and Joomla. Very cool, very easy to set up etc. Until you get to Tiger.

Well go to do that on a Tiger Server and am running into an issue between PHP and MySQL. I can login into MySQL, create a database, assign privs etc. When I got to link the db to Joomla, the PHP says the username and password are wrong.

This is using MySQL 4.1 and the default install of PHP on 10.4.3. I came across some postings about the socket location changing from /tmp to /etc, but nothing real concrete. One suggestion was to move to PHP5.

Any thoughts?
