ParticipantHow were the shortcuts created? Did you an MCX setting to automount the share point? I have had most success with doing it that way. You could also try to connect to the share point with the server dialog box then creating a dock sharepoint and see if you are getting the same issue.

ParticipantFrom what I can tell there really seems to be no easy way to deny desktop access on a mac. You can setup an ACL on the user templates folder to deny access to the desktop. This will only affect new users. For existing users you would have to add ACLs on their desktop folder. Keep in mind this might affect 3rd party apps like Firefox whose default downloads location is the desktop.

ParticipantDo you have a backup Metadata controller?
When you ran the command to check the volume did you do this?
cd /Library/Filesystems/Xsan/bin
sudo ./cvfsck -nv-Thomas

ParticipantThere are a couple of things you can do go stagger your wake up times. One is to create different computer groups and apply different MCX settings for wake times. The other is just to apply the MCX settings to a group of computers in the computer list like maybe 25 at a time.

ParticipantMake sure your user volumes on that server is setup as an automount and afp guest access is enabled and it should work.

ParticipantSonicwall does not handle DNS, It is not a DNS server. It directs your clients where to find the dns servers are on your network. It sounds like you do not have an internal DNS server on your lan. If you have an internal DNS server like on an OS X server (recommended) Just edit the DHCP settings on your sonicwall and have it give custom dns settings for your DHCP range.
As far as not being able to get to certain sites on your sonicwall, try disabling CFS on the sonicwall. http://www.318.com/techjournal/security/safari-browsing-and-sonicwall-enhanced/
In regards to your wireless not working make sure you have the appropriate rules to bridge the network with the lan.
Hope that helps,

ParticipantThe main problem i was having with my users was that users were getting end of file errors when trying to save to the san from Photoshop. The workaround was to go to
Preferences > File Handling
In the file saving options > image previews choose Never save. After that Photoshop and Xsan played real nice together.Thank You,

ParticipantIn case anyone else comes across similar lines of questions, in addition to what the other guys posted it’s also important to keep in mind that when you’re directing traffic, you need to take into account the number of LUNs per storage pool and then the number of clients using each pool. I recently setup a 4 concurrent stream 1080i system with 5 Xserve Raids. One volume divided into 2 storage pools of 4 luns totalling approx 15tb each. It really depends on number of concurrent streams and resolution which will ultimately dictate the total volume size.
Hope this helps,
Thank You,
