ParticipantBack again.
I imaged my instadmg machine last night with my last working build. I checked-out the lastest version of instadmg through svn. I copied my base image and custom packages into the new instadmg working folder. I forgot to mention, I am building images on a second internal drive. I store the instadmg folder there with all the packages and output files.
So, on basically a clean build of instadmg (leoaprd, 10.5.6), with a clean copy of instadmg with all the updates and custom packages that I know worked on my last build, I tried the process again today. While watching it, I noticed that I get the hdiutil error twice. The first time it appears is after installing the base image. It fails to unmount the intermediary disk image. The second time it appears is after the rename of the drive. I’m going to post all of the workflow so that I, hopefully, don’t miss anything useful for diagnosing.
I am now building an image with only the base image. I have disabled all the base updates and custom packages. We’ll see how that does.

ParticipantI just thought to check activity monitor to see if there was any process stuck that was holding onto the mounts. I force quit three instances of diskimages-helpe (that’s not a misspelling, that’s how it looked in activity monitor) and I was able to delete the old mounts. I’m starting a new image, and hoping it works this time. Although I don’t have much hope for it. I’m thinking about just rebuilding the machine. It’s not a big deal, and in fact I can use my last image to do the job, so it will take little time, but it’s annoying.
Anyway, that’s my update.

ParticipantI agree with Larkhost.
You just have to trust your users, no matter how many flaky users you have… I’m dealing with the same type of issues. Most of my users are admin, when they ask to be. I have to trust that they don’t change my admin password, disable ARD, install limewire, etc.
It happens, but it’s far and few between instances.

ParticipantOkey Dokey, here you go-key:
http://kb.educ.psu.edu/files/idd.pdfIf you have questions, let me know. Either here or email.

ParticipantFrom the ink above:
“To do this, you’ll create a FileVault Master password on one machine, and then copy certain files to all your managed machines. Open the Security preference pane and click “Set Master Password”. Since this will be deployed to all your managed machines, and since changing it (and propagating that change to existing FileVault-protected accounts) is difficult, make sure it’s a non-trivial password, and do not make it the same as any other admin or root password you have in use. Use the Password Assistant to check on the quality of your chosen password. Click OK to create the master password.
Two new files are created in /Library/Keychains: FileVaultMaster.cer, and FileVaultMaster.keychain
To implement the FileVault Master Password on all the machines you manage, simply install these two files on all your managed machines. You can use any method to do this (put them in your install image, using ARD, radmind, FileWave, etc), but make sure they are in place BEFORE FileVault is turned on for any accounts on a given machine. If FileVault has been turned on before these FileVaultMaster files are installed, the pre-existing FileVault-protected accounts cannot be unlocked using the FileVault Master Password you just created.”

ParticipantYeah, I could. It’s pretty specific to my organization, but I’ll share. Let me take a bit of time to clean out the private data and I’ll post a link later today or tomorrow.

ParticipantTry rebuilding your package. Sometimes I notice my pmdocs get messed up when I work from a afp share. My workflow is usually changing the permissions on the file to the root:wheel 750 or 700 and then adding it to the package maker doc. Then I double, triple, and quadruple check the permissions. Also, what version of package maker are you using?

ParticipantI wrote a guide for the rest of my staff on how to image and deploy an image on a machine. In the post-install section I ask them to email me if any updates need to be done. From that, I will determine what to add to the image. Sometimes updates like aperture 2 or the iLife 09 update I don’t include.
I also ask them to let me know about any issues. This, in my mind, is mainly for new hardware issues. Fortunately, I have not come across any issues with any hardware.
It’s probably not the answer your looking for, but it’s pretty easy for me.

Participant3) I use a script that will download a csv file from a web server. The file runs through Bombich’s set-names script also used in net restore. This way I can change the name of the file on the server, and let the machines name themselves.
Also, Remote Desktop, or another system control. Check out http://education.apple.com/contact_me/systems_management/Solutions_for_Sys_Mgmt.pdf

ParticipantI solve this issue by only running the computer naming script, then it loads the launchd item for the ad bind script and reboots. Then after reboot, it binds. You could also do an if statement that would check to see if the computer is named correctly.

ParticipantThis code is why the script is no longer executable:
#Self Destruct
srm “$0”
Perhaps you can script the copy of the home folder (ditto, chown) and then install the preferences.
sudo ditto -rsrc /System/Library/User Template/English.lproj /Users/usersudo chown -R user:staff /Users/user
HTH!
RustyEDIT: I didn’t test any of the user template commands!

ParticipantDid you try?
password=
Participant@fleecy I’m taking another look at Reader 9 and I’m seeing the same thing.
I’m trying to package the things that Adobe Reader 9 installs in the home folders to see if that helps.
Did my first run with Composer and I am still getting the prompt for admin passwords at first start and Updates (though I turned them off in the other user.)
I am not getting requests to install the safari plug in. I am getting a prompt to update after trying to turn it off.
I want to get these worked out, but have to give up for the day. I will start again Monday to try to tackle this.

ParticipantI have added a touched file to the package and then un-selected it in the contents tab. Also:

ParticipantIt’s been a while since I edited the createuser package. Would it have something to do with escaping the characters?
