Participant
Quote by: sketch[p]So you don’t do the plugin?[/p]
I hate the plugins and don’t install them into the browsers. I find that users usually don’t even open up Adobe reader for the most part. It’s just there in case they need it.

Participant
Quote by: sketch[p]Adobe Reader, bane of existence… how do people deal with it? What is the methodology, if any exists, for repackaging it for managed distribution?[/p]
Easy, just package the Adobe Reader 8 folder from the Application folder. I’m only worried about the intel versions. Can’t help if you have to do both PPC and intel versions.

Participant
Quote by: zanzan42[p]My test was successful.
I actually left both ProductKey.bundle and RemoveOffice.bundle in the InstallerSections.plist. I’m not exactly sure what the RemoveOffice.bundle does yet, or whether it’s something I should remove from the InstallerSections.plist, but it didn’t adversely affect the install. I suspect it either installs the Office Uninstaller, or is what gets called if you choose Uninstall Office when in the Office Installer GUI.
After running the InstaDMG build and dropping the image on my USB boot stick, I rebooted and launched Word.
I was not prompted for the product key, so that part of it works fine. However, I *was* prompted to enter a name and company name to populate the OfficePID.plist. While that’s not a huge issue (and might actually be desirable if you want to personalize the install for each user after imaging the machine), I’m going to test adding my customized OfficePID.plist file to the same location in the installer package where SetupInfo.plist is and see if it gets dropped in by the installer as well.

Just a guess, but RemoveOffice.bundle might install the Remove Office program?

Are there other methods, short of changing my password, to fix the issue? Thanks![/p]
I’m not sure I understand the question. But you shouldn’t use a pipe, it should be a greater than “>” i.e.
/path/to/shadowHash “yourpassword”>password_hash
And yes quoting it should be fine, but I haven’t done thorough tests on “exotic” passwords. In theory it should work with any ASCII characters. If you’re having trouble with a particular password, let me know. I wouldn’t expect you to tell me the password, but perhaps if there’s some wacky characters there may be an issue. Also when you say the script is failing what do you mean?[/p]
Sorry, I should have been clearer. Lets just say my password is “abra|cadabra”, without quotes the pipe is interpreted in the script, as I’m sure your aware. So I am testing with the quotes and I wasn’t sure if the quotes would then become part of the password, or not.
Again:
/path/to/shadowHash abra|cadabra>password_hash
Fails, tries to use the pipe and can’t find the cadabra program
But, I am trying
/path/to/shadowHash “abra|cadabra”>password_hash
And you say it should work. Thanks! I’ll let you know if I have any problems with it today. Cheers!

ParticipantI’ve been installing the old iMovie HD because some people still prefer it. I use apple’s own package to do this, it’s a stand alone iMovie HD installer:

Although, I have not been getting iMovie 08 installed on my image, is that, like dvd player, because of the machine I’m running on?

>How about ARD? Will kickstart only affect the startup disk or can you run that in a postflight script?
ARD’s kickstart can address non-boot volumes. Tack on “-targetdisk $3” onto your kickstart command options (it may need to be the first option after the path to kickstart–I have no proof of that except every example I’ve seen has -targetdisk listed first).

Oh, looks like I was wrong!

Participant
Quote by: fender36[p]How about ARD? Will kickstart only affect the startup disk or can you run that in a postflight script?[/p]
ARD kickstart command has to be run once the machine has booted. There is a clever launchd script that works well:
https://www.afp548.com/forum/viewtopic.php?forum=45&showtopic=19122&highlight=ard
I’ve also added my packagemaker project and scripts. I hope I’m not violating any copyrights in doing so…

You’ll have to change the user name and the name of the launchd item, you should see in the script. Anyway, good luck!

Participant
Quote by: dano[p]An image generated on Intel hardware probably is not compatible with PowerPC hardware or vice versa. What this means is you should:
1. Deploy images built on Intel hardware to Intel hardware only.
2. Deploy images built on PowerPC hardware to PowerPC hardware only.Note: There was some rumors that Apple was going to unify the partition mapping between PowerPC and Intel. Not sure if it happened. It’s safer to assume that Intel images won’t work on PowerPC hardware and vice versa. This is definitely the case under Tiger and I suspect the same applies to Leopard.[/p]
Hey guys,
I’ve been building all y images (leopard only) on a G5 xServe and it has been booting a macbook pro fine. The only thing that doesn’t work is DVD player. At least that’s all I’ve found. Here’s my order:

Participant
Quote by: patchsmyle[p]Microsoft did not do any one any favors to find the correct link to download. If you scroll half way down the page, you will see a three pane section at the bottom. It has the label “Detail” above it. That pane you can scroll down in. You will then see the link to download it. Adding the link to the page again here.
Some one at Microsoft should be shot for the poor UI design on the page.
[/p]
Agreed, the UI is very confusing. Sorry to beat a dead horse, but that link is a dmg with a .app in it. Does that work as a pkg? My original question was that, see above…
Rusty Myers
ParticipantI checked the site you linked to and couldn’t find it, maybe you could be a little more specific on where it is? Thanks
Rusty Myers
ParticipantMust be my ignorance, but it has a .app extension. Does that work with instaDMG? I was assuming that all programs, updates, etc. had to be in pkg format. Granted, teh Auto Update app does look like a installer, it just doesn’t have the extensions.
Also, I have not been able to get the Update 12.0.1 to update my Office 08 using InstaDMG. At least the Office programs don’t show the update when viewing their info.
Anyway, I’m posting far before I’m done testing, kinda prematurely, but there it is. Thanks!

Everything I have wanted to script, so far, I have been able to google and find. Good luck and enjoy!

ParticipantI am having the same problem with the Auto Update 2.1.1. Word installs fine, but the updates do not seem to work. I tried installing Word 2008 and Office update 12.0.1 and it doesn’t look like it was applied. Now I can’t even run the MAU to run the Auto Update 2.1.1. I tried to repackage Auto Update 2.1.1 with Packagemaker, but it doesn’t do anything. I want to run them in the InstaDMG script, but for now will run them after the first boot.
