I’m encountering the same exact issue on my network.

Before writing this patch did you try modifying the way the client connects to OpenLDAP? I ask because I’d rather take this route than muck with my OpenLDAP server.

I’m wondering if this can be set similar to the way mappings can be defined between local directory attributes and LDAP attributes using Directory Utility on a client Mac.
