ParticipantI’m able to get the files by hand from a browser, I’m just not able to get them with the InstaUp2Date. I did have to configure the proxy file for svn in order to get it to work, so I’m guessing a similar change might be needed for InstaUp2Date.

ParticipantPatrick,
I stripped our image down to simply a CS3 install with Acrobat and Photoshop. This helped eliminate a number of potential vectors for investigation.
In the end, with a clean install of OS X.5.6, and Acrobat/Photoshop, it turns out Acrobat really, really, really wants r/w/x access to /Library/Colorsync/Profiles.
This is set to ‘REQUIRED’ in the self heal XML file in /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/ .
If you set that required to ‘NO’ – Acrobat will still attempt to self heal, it just won’t attempt fail after seeing that it doesn’t have r/w/x access.
I’m putting Office back into our build, and it’s my hope that it won’t try to force it’s way into getting it’s greedy little self heal mitts on that as well.
If it does, we’ll simply edit the self head doc as well.
I packaged the self heal doc as it’s own pkg, just in case I do end up having to go back and make subsequent edits.

ParticipantRusty, I’m creating a snapshot pgk of those files in the user template.
What do you think-will it work if I include it in my InstaDMG build?
Place your bets now…

ParticipantDammit Rusty, you’re my hero!
😛 😮

ParticipantI’ve found the actual shortcuts in the ~/Library/Favorites/ directory. Is it possible to simply package that and run the package on client machines? Not to sound stupid, but everything that I’ve done involved making system wide packages rather than user specific packages.
Does anyone have any ideas on the best way to implement something like this?
My main concern is that if I package the shortcut that it might insert my username automagically and mess with single sign on.

ParticipantRusty, actually, in the end I just used Composer to snapshot it.

ParticipantI appreciate you guys taking the initiative to do a how to guide. You might find it helpful to have a look at Mike Bombich’s current AD/OD integration doc as well.

ParticipantPackaging works just fine.
Took the before snapshot, Installed the apps, and ran software update. After the restart took the ‘after snapshot.
The only thing I was a bit nervous about was including Quicktime in my pkg- but it doesn’t seem to have made a big difference.
I’m adding iLife support back into my build as a base update.

ParticipantI’ve packaged up an actual iLife install. I’ll post results.

Participant
Also, is your file InstallerChoices.xml? I don’t know if its picky about the name, but normally the commandline stuff is case sensitive.
You got me – how could I miss that? It was still named LeopardChoices.xml on my desktop. I feel like a dunce. I renamed, and put it in my base install directory.
I have to say, I’ve gotten farther, faster with this version of InstaDMG then I ever did with the older version.

ParticipantNate,
Thanks very much – for whatever reason, my array, and string tags were cut out when I cut and pasted in my text.
I had the exact same keys listed. I saved the installerchoices.xml file, and then copied it into the base install directory.
I’m not sure what I might have done wrong – I’ll post up the logs to see if there’s any clue in there.

ParticipantChanging from DMG to PKG files did the trick, thanks for the advice.
I wish I could help on the Camera RAW issue- my 10.5.5 disc seems to have it by default.
Now I have to move onto issues with my InstallerChoices XML file, as it doesn’t seem to be working – I’ll make a new post for that just in case other folks are having issues.

ParticipantNate, thanks very much – when I checked the build log, it still looked like InstaDMG was opening the DMGs, so I thought maybe I didn’t need to.
Thanks for the quick feedback- I’ll rebuild with the actuall PKG files.

ParticipantI had thought (incorrectly from the looks of it) that if the Diff file was fed in, that it would record the file removal needs, and that pkgMaker would send that info along to PackageMaker…is that incorrect?
Can you detail the postflight scripting tasks necessary?
mgb123
ParticipantI’ve attempted to make a pkg of the Adobe updates using the LogGen, and pkgGen, and Package maker workflow.
I was able to create a base CS3 install for Photoshop/Bridge etc- but when it came time to make the pkg for the update, i was unsuccessful.
Photoshop starts up and instantly crashes- the error message in the crash log is:
