    Just FYI,
    I have just run the command on a disk image from a new MacBook Pro 13 inch (10.6.3 Build 10D2125) and I get the same “installer: Error – ” result. If I run the same command on a disk image from a 10.6 Retail disk then I get the expected response.

    I’ve had the same issue. I filed a bug report (5812444) with Apple back in March, and for a week or so had some dialog with them, but since then I’ve heard nothing. The bug is still listed as a duplicate (5897650).
    If anyone has found a way to resolve this I’d love to know!

    correct me if i’m wrong, but when the server is promoted to an OD Master the Kerberos service starts up (assuming all the DNS malarky is set up properly)…..so is your Xserve an OD master?
