Hi Guys, in response to the “Can you have the Tiger Server Admin tools and the Leopard Server Admin tools on the same computer?” and “Does it matter if that admin computer is Leopard or Tiger based?”
questions, I have a dual boot 10.5 /10.4 macbook and 10.4.10 Server.
Booting in 10.5 I can install the 10.5 admin tools but Server Admin gives me the “server is too old to be used with this version of Server Admin” WGM works fine. Also the 10.4 tools can be dragged from another install , I put them in my documents folder, and they work fine. If you try to install them it won’t let you.
Booting in 10.4 I can use the 10.4 tools fine but the 10.5 tools don’t work, neither trying to install them nor dragging them off another install.
So yes it seems that it is possible to have them both on the same admin machine but it looks like that machine needs to be running 10.5.
Hope this makes sense and helps

Cheers

Hi strontium90, on the client in Directory Acess, make sure the AD Domain is at the top of the list in Authentication and Contacts tab, also cehck that the allow authentication from any domain, under the advanced tab is not selected.

Reboot machine and click 3-4 times on the grey text on the login window under the MAC OS and see what it says about network accounts.

Cheers

Hi schilled, I have had some success with this but needed to disable bonjour to get there- due to our .local domain.. The same settings theat worked in 10.4 don’t seem to work in 10.5 and it seems like , In my case, we’re back to where we were with 10.3. I did have a few issues with credentials but now have the home folder in the dock and nearly back to where 10.4 user experience was.

Cheers

Hi Kostas, If everything is setup in the AD acount settings correctly, especially the network home folder using the \\server\share\folder convention then it looks ok. I would change the “Network protocol to be used = afp” to SMB if you’re hosting the homes on your SBS 2003 box and change “Authentication from any domain = Enabled” to disabled. As long as graphicarts is in the search domains in the network settings for TCP/IP for the network interface you’re using and .local is in the Proxy tab under “bypass proxy settings for these hosts and domains” it should be alright.

Give that a go and get back to us.

Hi CostasPPC1, any luck with this? If not what settings are you using when you bind?

Hi Dave, we have the setup mentioned in the above post for our staff Macbooks and it works well. Our staff wireless is a BlueSocket 802.1X-secured network and exporting to the login window presents few issues. Our student wireless is unsecured and they need to authenticate to the controller via a web browser to access anything on the network , but they are not bound to AD yet, as the staff are.

If there is something I can help you with, let me know.

Cheers
