ParticipantI called composer and got the serial # for the version we had. We originally had version 6, but they upgraded us to version 7 for free.
Version 7 is AMAZING at first glance. It can build packages from already-installed programs via pre-made diff files. I’m testing it out right now on our CS4 applications, we’ll see how it does.
I’m quite impressed with it at first glance, but I’m going to test it a while and see if it really is that amazing (Seems too good to be true).

Participant
Quote by: larkost[p]If you take apart the createUser package you will find that it installs the password as a file into /private/var/db/shadow/hash/. The file name needs to be the GeneratedUID from above.[/p]
Ah, that makes sense. So if I just put the password into a hash and replace the one that is currently there, it should do the trick. I’ll fiddle with this for a little while.
thanks again,

ParticipantHrmm, yea. I have that command and I’ve used it to change all the computers that currently are deployed. The reason I want to change it on the image is because we have a computer lab that images their machines themselves, so it is hard for me to keep on top of changing the admin password.
Perhaps I’ll just change their image the hard way and then our main image I can just change it after imaging it (I’m the only one that uses the regular image).
Thanks for the idea =)

Participant
Quote by: randygordon[p]I’ve created a CS4 package with JAMF Composer.
Very simple. Well work the $99.[/p]
Which version do you have? I think I actually have version 5.1 (just found it on our server…the previous image dev knew about it but I was never told that we had it…lol)

ParticipantAlrighty. Adobe has a method of installing it that allows you to put it into a .pkg format (basically it runs the install from the .pkg). The postflight script on the package launches the installer silently. This works quite well on fully booted systems because it detects if any other products are installed and if shared components are installed, it doesn’t reinstall them. The problem with this is that each package is pretty big (each have the shared components).
I didn’t personally make the packages, so I cannot give you specifics on how this was done (our previous image developer did).
I’ll see what I can figure out. This is gonna be a huge pain I think =)

ParticipantI actually tried that and when I go to print and fax in system preferences, its empty. I rebooted to make sure and still nothing. I looked at printers.conf and it indeed was the one I placed there via a custom package.
Any ideas on that one? If I could make it work with the printers.conf that would be nice.

ParticipantSounds good. I think I will map them using a script that runs the first time it boots. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t overlooking a simpler way of doing it.
Btw, that app you linked looks great. I’ll give it a shot =)
Thanks!

ParticipantYea, I noticed after I started editing my catalog file =) Thank you for pointing that out though. I started looking through the dependencies for the updates (Which I should of done in the first place…) and figured it out pretty quick.

ParticipantAh, that makes total sense. I’ll get the 7.1 update and install that before I install the 7.1.5 update and see what it does.
The weird part is that I use a Dev image that is pretty plain except a few handy tools, so it doesn’t even have iMovie. Worse comes to worse, if I can get the iPhoto thing figured out, I’ll just make a script that deletes that previous version folder so I don’t have to stare at it anymore =)
Thank you very much for your help. I’m glad to know that the previous version thing has happened to someone else as well =) I figured it was just my bad luck.

ParticipantIronically, I added that debug message you suggested, but when I run it now I get a totally different error message. I think that the script hates me for some reason =)
Its now getting an error on line 66, which is the settings sanity check in the python script.
I need to see if I can get it to bug out like it was previously.
Thanks,

Participant*edit*
Nevermind. Its not working. *sigh*

ParticipantOk, I played with it a little more.
If I jump dump the files into the InstaUp2DatePackages folder, it works fine, but if I try to specify a path, it spits that error message out. Should the path be in quotes in the catalog file? What is the best way to specify their location? I would like to try to stay away from dumping all the packges into one folder.
Thanks,
Nate
