I can answer my own question.

While I still don’t know why the aliases are behaving this way, there is a simple way around it.

It turns out that location files can be used to accomplish the same thing as aliases in this case. They seem to work just fine. The location file just needs to have the specific volume you want to mount included in the URL. For example:

afp://server01/share1

Does the Server Admin GUI work with ISC DHCP or would I need to configure, monitor,etc from the CLI?
