Followup:

Okay so I had my student assistant re-name the /private/var/folders to something else since deleting some but not all of the folders would take to long (there are 660 of them). So after that, the computer became quite unstable. We let it go like that for a day or so (computer re-booted at least a couple of times). So now I had the folder re-named back and we are monitoring the computer to see if it’s stable now.
