Xserve G5 Dual 2.3 1gb RAM Tiger 10.4.11 slow write to share drive

My server is: Xserve G5 Dual 2.3 1gb RAM Tiger 10.4.11 – Network is Gigabit Ethernet
I have a Lacie FW800 1 TB Raid connected Firewire 800, set up as a share.
Recently, certain users on the network can copy down from the server at lightning speed, but copying back to the share or saving an open document takes a ludicrous amount of time.

As a test I copied down a 450mb disk image in 8 seconds
Copying it back took 40 minutes

I performed the same test on the server’s internal hard drive:
copied down a 450mb disk image in 8 seconds
Copying it back took 1 minute

Then on the server itself, copied same file from RAID to internal HD – 8 seconds
Copy back from RAID to HD, less than 1 minute!

I suspect the RAID as the culprit, ran Disk Repair, Techtool, with no success.

I replaced all unmanaged switches (total of 3).

I am confounded and I need some guidance if anyone may have any ideas.
