Lately I have been hearing a lot of talk about this not being a good idea. Although I have not seen anything in writing discussing this. I have personally tested it and have found it works, but I have not tested it in a production environment with a large group of users all at once.
What I’m hearing from other people is that even if your just doing an AFP share on the XSAN, since the metadata controller is being the traffic cop for every I/O on the XSan, this could be to much for network home directories. This completely makes sense to me, but I can’t find anyone talking about this. I have also heard of problems with using home directories on a ACFS volume.
It would be nice to hear some feedback on this.I would assume the ability is coming? If anyone has tried it, or knows for sure if there are issues or limitations. It seems Xsan Enterprise has been swept under the rug or at least I haven’t heard much about it.
