We have a G5 Xserve with an Xserve RAID as our companies file server, using both AFP and Samba for our small group of Windows XP users. We’ve had a recurring problem where XP users connected to a share cannot access the mapped drive. They will be connected and working on a file but when they try to save it says they can’t connect. Sometimes this goes away in a minute or so, and if we disconnect them from the server they are able to get back in. We’ve tried mucking about in smb.conf: first turning off deadtime then trying deadtime at 5 minutes with a keepalive of 60 seconds, but the problem keeps coming back. Any ideas?
