    Hello all,

This morning I woke up to find one of my XServes dead in the water. I could not ssh into it and it was no longer serving my sites. I kicked it with a bootable powerstrip and it came back. I went to check the system.log and noticed that it was 1.42Gb! That’s a whoooole lot of text. So I ran periodic to get that log out of the loop, then downloaded it so I could open it. Turns out that it was full of entries that looked like this:

xinetd[17987]: Unexpected signal 4 (Illegal instruction)

I searched on google but could find nothing discussing what an xinetd signal 4 is. Does anyone have any idea what this is, or even what it might be? I’d like to know what killed my server, but I don’t where to go at this point.

    Thanks in advance!
